Job Summary

Purpose

The Area Medical Head will lead the Country Medical Directors and their teams in the sub-region (APAC/ Central/ LATAM) to drive the medical affairs strategy and performance across the product portfolio in multiple diverse market types. As the line manager of all Country Medical Directors in the sub region they will set strategic direction and be accountable both for the medical performance and for ensuring strong compliance with medical governance across all markets in the sub-region. They will be the medical counterpart working alongside the SVP Commercial head of the sub region to lead the sub region working closely with the General Managers and cross-functional team to achieve the business ambition. They will also be a senior member of the International Regional Medical Lead Team to ensure medical enterprise leadership across all sub regions and Therapy Areas in the region.

Responsibilities

This is the most senior enterprise leadership position for Medical Affairs within the sub-region accountable for providing the vision and leadership to ensure achieving our goals as described in Medical Affairs Value Proposition across all markets in the area

The role is accountable for leading and managing the team across the area ensuring that all the countries have the required level of Medical capabilities and leadership including business and financial acumen alongside core medical capabilities to carry out the core tasks and critical functions required to support a successful local business

Operating as a core strategic leader along with partner functions to commercialise new medicines and vaccines. This will include leading country medical directors in the development and execution of country specific medical affairs plans to help define the value proposition of our medicines and vaccines including evidence generation to close Market data gaps identify unmet medical needs and the appropriate external communication of our data to external healthcare providers

Understand the importance of staying at the forefront of healthcare trends in the region and how trends influence our work

Stay ahead of current product issues and address/make recommendations and provide medical expertise on a wide range of topics. It will be important to provide a credible and deeply scientific external voice for GSK and to ensure rapid and thorough responses to product issues and more importantly to anticipate and mitigate problems before they occur

Drive capability development and performance management amongst Country medical Directors and their teams to ensure MSL execution in alignment with strategy and ensuring medical insights are connected with plans for the medicine and vaccines. Ensure MSLs become masters of scientific data generation and excel at authentic medical engagement

Drive pivotal portfolios across GSK medicines and vaccines representing present and future growth

Key strategic partner to colleagues in Commercial Regional Medical Compliance VEO Medical Governance and Regulatory & Clinical Operations

Basic Qualifications
- MD PharmD or PhD in clinical / scientific discipline
- Experience across multiple therapeutic areas.

- Significant experience in medical affairs leadership roles within the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry.

- Experience of in country (LoC) leadership including successful launches.

- Proven ability to lead and manage diverse teams across multiple countries or regions.

- Experience of supporting pre/peri launch phases of assets in country and above country
- Strong understanding of medical governance compliance and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (in English) with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
- Strategic mindset with a track record of driving impactful medical initiatives.

- Experience of managing multiple projects budgets and interactions simultaneously

- Ability to thrive in a fast paced innovative environment while remaining flexible proactive resourceful and efficient.

- Experience of mentoring and developing talent within teams.

Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in a relevant field (e.g. MBA or MPH).

- Experience working outside of medical affairs in groups such as clinical development commercial or regulatory affairs
- Experience working in the International APAC area with knowledge of its healthcare landscape.

- Experience of working at a global level
- Expertise in building external partnerships and collaborations.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace culture.

- Experience of transformational AI initiatives within medical affairs
