The Monitor Technician is responsible for monitoring patients heart statuses specifically interpreting basic cardiac rhythms and documenting EKG tracings to ensure patient safety in intensive care or step-down units.
The Monitor Technician is responsible for monitoring patients heart statuses specifically interpreting basic cardiac rhythms and documenting EKG tracings to ensure patient safety in intensive care or step-down units.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cardiac Monitoring:Continuously observe and interpret EKG tracings from telemetry-monitored patients.
- Documentation:Accurately document rhythm strips and patient data.
- Alert Communication:Promptly notify appropriate nursing or medical staff of dysrhythmias or deviations from the patients baseline.
- Equipment Management:Utilize monitoring systems to full capacity including troubleshooting and ensuring proper functionality.
- Patient Safety:Adhere to infection control and safety protocols.
Qualifications:
- Education:High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Certification/Experience:Completion of a monitor technician surveillance program is required upon hire. If not a certificate program must be completed within 90 days of employment.
- Experience Substitution:1 year of experience in monitor technician surveillance within the last 5 years.
- Competency:Must successfully pass the Sentara Basic Arrhythmia competency tool/exam before releasing from orientation.
- Skills:Strong cardiac anatomy/physiology knowledge communication and organizational skills.
