Data Curator
Job Summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a Data Curator to help drive the invention of safe and sustainable active ingredients in Product Safety by contributing to the cutting-edge research and development within our dynamic and highly talented team. The ideal candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the integrity accessibility and usability of diverse datasets in support of our AI ambitions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Collaborate with team members to map chemical data to toxicological entities using bioinformatics resources and ontologies.
- Work in partnership across research teams to transform toxicology documents into structured high-quality datasets for AL/ML models
- Ensure consistency completeness and scientific accuracy of curated toxicological datasets
- Work closely with toxicologists data scientists and cross-functional teams to align on curation standards and requirement
- Identifying wrangle and structuring datasets from internal and external sources for modelling and analysis
- Contribute to making datasets FAIR (Findable Accessible Interoperable and Reusable) for the broader research community.
Qualifications :
Critical Experience and Skills:
- Educated to MSc or PhD degree level in Toxicology Biological Sciences Pharmacology Drug Development or related fields
- Experience of biomedical ontologies data (biological toxicological and chemical) curation or systematic review methodologies
- Strong data handling skills: extracting cleaning validating and transforming metadata in structured formats
- Knowledge of toxicology databases and data sources and approaches to improve their interoperability for AI/ML purposes.
- High level of attention to detail and compliance with best practices
- Self-starter with enthusiasm flexibility and motivation to learn and apply new skills
- Ability to work effectively within a team
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to quickly develop key relationships and to communicate within and across multidisciplinary teams
Desirable skills and experience:
- Background in Toxicology with a knowledge of bioinformatics data sources
- Experience of ontology led data harmonisation and cross mapping
- Experience of AI assisted annotation and curation
- Experience of at least one programming language would be advantageous

Jealotts Hill International Research Centre UK is situated in pleasant semi-rural surroundings between Bracknell and Maidenhead and is the place of work for approximately 800 Syngenta scientists and support staff. Jealotts Hill is one of the main global research and development sites and key activities include research into discovery of new active ingredients new formulation technologies product safety and technical support of our product range.
