Job Summary

Position Summary

Under general supervision the Montessori Teacher-in-Residence is a year-long apprenticeship under the guidance of a Supervising Teacher. The Teacher-in-Residence monitors and assists students with completing academic tasks and activities provides general classroom lessons in the target language if placed in a dual language setting and will provide lessons utilizing Montessori materials upon completion of areas of the curriculum in training under the direction of the classroom Teacher. The Montessori Teacher-in-Residence will simultaneously enroll in a district-approved Montessori training program and sign service agreement if the district incurs the cost of training.

Job Responsibilities

Essential Functions: Essential functions as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act may include any of the following representative duties knowledge and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assists classroom teachers with implementing academic instruction; supports preparation of the environment provides additional explanation and instruction for specific assignments as needed.
  • Organizes and monitors the use of classroom supplies and materials.
  • Utilizes district curriculum and Montessori materials for development of lessons.
  • Monitors student activities; assists students with completing classroom assignments and maintaining focus; arranges and works with small groups of students needing further instruction of assistance with activities; observes and documents student progress.
  • In collaboration with supervising teacher/guide reports information related to student development progress and behaviors to parents Teachers and other school staff as appropriate.
  • Monitors classroom behavior to support any behavior management concerns or challenges; provides emotional support to students as needed.
  • Provides content instruction in target language if placed in a dual language setting
  • Works with small groups of students on content or target language development in the classroom or separate environment.
  • Arizona State Teaching Certification and substantial completion of Montessori certification necessary by the end of the academic year
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.

  • Child development.
  • Learning and teaching methods and styles.
  • Classroom behavior management.

  • Maintaining patience and professionalism when working with students.
  • Organizing work and setting priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Identifying learning and behavioral progress and concerns or challenges.
  • Preparing clear and concise reports.
  • Interacting professionally with District staff and outside agencies.
  • Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Operating a computer and related software.
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish)

Education and Experience:

Bachelors Degree AND one (1) year of experience working with children;

Work Location / Conditions:

Work is performed in a classroom environment and requires the use of standard classroom and Montessori equipment.
