About the role

Merri-Bek City Council is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Unit Manger Building Maintenance. A key leadership position this role provides strategic and operational leadership of the Building Maintenance Unit. It works collaboratively across the organisation and with community partners to plan deliver and manage building maintenance and renewal programs ensuring Council assets are maintained to the quality safety and efficiency standards expected by the Merri-bek community. This role has oversight of a large number of contracts. The Unit Manager is responsible for fostering a positive safety-first workplace culture and a high performing team that delivers outcomes that reflect the communitys aspirations for their local area.

Skills and experience require to perform the role

  • Tertiary qualification in building construction management facilities management asset management or a related discipline or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience leading building or facilities maintenance services preferably within local government or a complex public sector environment.
  • Proven people leadership experience including performance management and team development.
  • Demonstrated experience in contract management budget management and service delivery planning.
  • Sound knowledge of building compliance essential safety measures and relevant legislation.
  • Experience working with asset management systems and contributing to long-term capital renewal planning.
  • Knowledge of sustainability principles as applied to building operations and maintenance.
  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Previous Local Government Experience is desirable.
  • Current Victorian drivers licence and Working With Children Check
