Groundskeeper Summer Student (May to August)

As a Groundskeeper/Summer Student you will be an integral part of a team focused on delivering seamless services and programs to our clients and customers. Hours of Work: Monday to Friday days 37.5 hours per week May 4 2026 to August 31 2026
What youll be doing:
You will assist grounds and maintenance staff with:
- Spring clean-up of grounds and gardens including sweeping sand from walks and roadways
- Plant and maintain garden beds
- Trim trees bushes and hedges
- Tree take down cut back and pruning according to established tree management practices
- Application of weed control according to grounds master plan and established policy and procedures
- Daily checks and when required sweep walks and entrances and/or pick up garbage
- Empty waste containers and clear cigarette butts
- Maintain exterior signs furniture and roadway markings
- Clean all shop areas daily and weekly on a shared basis
- Under the guidance of grounds and maintenance staff may work from ladders and use hand tools
- Be aware of and abide by all department policies especially with regards to working smartly and safely
- Maintain a clean safe working area and ensure all safety precautions are taken in the performance of duties.
What were looking for:
- Ability and willingness to work cooperatively as a part of a team
- Understanding of WHMIS controlled products
- Proven good work and attendance record
- Ability to use power and/or hand tools and meet the physical demands of the job
- Commitment to working within Homewoods Health and Safety Standards
- Demonstrated commitment to Homewoods Core Competencies (Service Excellence Innovation Collaboration Integrity)
- Enrollment in University or Community College is required
