Do you want to manage a state-of-the-art research laboratory dedicated to exploring the amazingly abundant and diverse life of environmental microorganisms at the ultimate resolution in biology individual cells
At the Faculty of Engineering and Science Department of Chemistry and Bioscience we are seeking a skilled and motivated Laboratory Engineer to help build and operate a next-generation facility for microbial single-cell genomics. The appointment starts on 1 September 2026 or soon thereafter.
Your work tasks
Initially you will oversee the setup of a next-generation laboratory for microbial single-cell genomics in close collaboration with the laboratorys head Prof. Ramunas Stepanauskas. This involves the purchase installation and testing of fluorescence-activated cell sorters liquid-handling robots microfluidic devices DNA sequencers and other advanced instrumentation. Subsequently you will manage the laboratorys daily operations use and maintain instrumentation train and supervise laboratory personnel collaborate with other scientists within and outside the laboratory and contribute to research programs and grant proposal preparation.
Your Competencies
The ideal candidate brings strong organizational skills and documented expertise in environmental microbiology microbial genomics flow cytometry microfluidics and laboratory automation. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are essential as is a genuine enthusiasm for working in a collaborative interdisciplinary research environment.

The position is based at the Center for Microbial Communities which houses approximately 50 scientists at various career stages who work to understand the structure and function of microbial communities in environmental and biotechnological contexts. The Center sits within the Department of Chemistry and Bioscience a dynamic hub for research and education that generates fundamental knowledge and tackles global challenges across biology chemistry biotechnology bioengineering environmental science and chemical engineering. Salary and terms of employment
Employment and salary are in accordance with the Collective Agreement for Academic Staff Employed in the State Sector (in Danish). Qualification-based supplements may be granted subject to negotiation.
There is a 3-month mutual trial period.
