Job Summary

JOB TITLE: INSTRUCTOR CONSTRUCTION TRADES TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT: TECHNICAL EDUCATION

SALARY RANGE: BASED ON EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE FLSA: EXEMPT

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Dean of Technical Education

SCHEDULE DETAILS: 9-month/PSRS

This position is responsible for 15 credit hours of instruction per fall and spring semester. The instructor is allowed to teach two classes for overload per semester. Over two classes for overload is rare and requires approval of Dean and Provost.

Position Summary

The instructoris responsible fordeveloping and implementing the daily lesson plans and activities for the assigned classes. The instructor is also responsible for creating a classroom environment that implements best practices supports industry standards and engages students in career and technical instructor will alsomaintainindustry andrequiredcertification(s) for specialized fields. This positionis responsible forfifteen credit hours of instruction per fall and spring instructor is allowed toteach two classes for overload per two classesrequireapproval of Dean and Provost.

Essential Job Duties

Instruction & Student Engagement

  • Provide quality instruction which is reflective of current discipline standards and isaccurate relevant and engaging using collegeapproved curriculumand resources.
  • Actively engage and interact with students using intentional best practice teaching strategies.
  • Plan and prepare the learning environment with needed materials and supplies.
  • Develop a course syllabus for each class taught using the approved course abstract and syllabus template.
  • Present coursecontent in an unbiased and civil manner whiledemonstratingrespect helpfulness and responsiveness toward students.
  • Demonstrate professionalconduct positive attitude and supportive culture.
  • Maintainappropriate recordkeeping for assigned classes to include student attendance record of grades earned and other related classroominformation.
  • Schedule and keep a minimum of five office hours per weekconvenienttostudents.
  • Assistin addressing studentconcernsregardingadvisement placement andcoursedifficulties.
  • Work with program advisory committees; serve as partners with local industry.
  • Facilitate student recruitment;assistin the promotion of programs.
  • Sponsorstudent clubs and/or organizations asappropriate.
  • Complete professional development training hours andmaintainappropriate professionalcertification as necessary.
  • Activelyparticipatein department and division meetings events and initiatives.
  • Assistin textbook and course materialselection;assistwith curriculum development and modification of programs. Maintainconfidentiality of studentsparents/guardians and fellow staff members as well as records andall information.
  • Exhibitexemplary attendance policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned including participating in commencement attending college functions serving oncommitteesand attendingcommunity events.

Curriculum & Assessment

  • Develop and maintain course syllabi in alignment with approved templates and course abstracts.
  • Plan and prepare learning environments with appropriate materials and resources.
  • Support efforts in curriculum development student learning assessment and annual planning.
  • Coordinate textbook selection and course materials with the department chair

Professionalism & Collegiality

  • Demonstrate professional conduct a positive attitude and a collaborative spirit.
  • Exhibit exemplary attendance and punctuality.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student and staff information.
  • Complete required professional development and maintain necessary certifications.
  • Comply with all college policies and procedures.
  • Participate in college-wide events including commencement and committee service.

Non-Essential Job Duties

  • Provide input to Dean in evaluation of courses for transfer and articulation discussions with other institutions.
  • Arrange for substitute instructors when needed.
  • Review relevant professional development activities for faculty.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning (or ability to complete an associate degree within six months ofhire).
  • Valid Missouri teaching certificate (or willingness to obtain one for secondary and post-secondary education).
  • Three years of full-time experience teaching or training in a related discipline either in an academic or industry setting.
  • Minimum of five years of industry or related field experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of course content and effectiveness in teaching.
  • Experience working with business and industry partnerships.
  • Availability to teach daytime evening or weekend courses as needed.
  • Excellent oral written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and use productivity tools (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree from a regionally accredited institution or industry-accredited organization.
  • Teaching experience in the career and technical education field.
  • Ten years of employment experience in the industry ora relatedfield.
  • Proficiency with Learning Management Systems (e.g. Canvas)
  • Possession of an industry-recognized credential in the program area.
  • Participation in professional organizations related to teachingarea.
  • Experience with Colleague or similar administrative systems.
  • Prior experience in a collegiate or higher education setting.

Environment:Work is performed primarily in a standard office setting with frequent interruptions and distractions. Requires extended periods of time viewing computer monitor or standing; may require adjustment of schedule to include some evening and/or weekends; may encounter occasional exposure to inclement weather during travel.

Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to lift carry push and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard.
