Site H&S Management
- Monitor site compliance with the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act (2015) associated Regulations Approved Codes of Practice and any subsequent amendments. Ensure any non-compliances are promptly addressed.
- Participate in the development of the project(s) Health and Safety Management Plan and Health and Safety Action Plans.
- Administer the site induction programme for new employees subcontractors and visitors ensuring that the companys and projects health and safety expectations are clearly communicated.
- Attend and support health and safety committee meetings and weekly toolbox meetings.
- Coordinate and participate in project audits and site inspections.
- Conduct weekly area inspections independent of the project.
- Monitor the timely close out of all corrective actions from the above inspections and audits.
- Collate and maintain safety records registers and statistical data.
- Provide safety data for project and Divisional reports.
- Ensure that PPE available onsite is appropriate to meet task safety requirements.
- Manage site health and safety equipment (calibration testing first aid kits fire extinguishers etc.)
- Actively participate in the development and implementation of safe work practices for the elimination isolation and minimisation of workplace hazards.
- Audit JSEAs regularly to ensure that they are being implemented correctly. Communicate any deviations from plan immediately with the appropriate supervisor.
- Monitor and review the compliance for the Project Critical Risk Minimum Requirements.
- Identify and facilitate the health and safety training needs of the project maintaining registers of training and competency in conjunction with the H&S Administrator.
- Support investigations of incidents and near misses and monitor the timely closeout of any corrective and preventive actions.
- Maintain all project health and safety registers.
- Develop a close relationship with the local medical centre to ensure that individual project and company needs are met.
- Provide support and assistance to the projects employee health and safety representatives.
- Ensure site emergency procedures are understood by all site employees and subcontractors and procedures are tested on a regular basis (including evacuation trials).
- Provide support in the implementation of the companys drug and alcohol policy and procedures.
- Coordinate random post incident and just cause drug and alcohol testing.
- Track initiatives and best practices across projects and the industry ensuring that learnings are disseminated and implemented across the project as appropriate.
- Liaise with the Divisional EHS Manager and H&S Advisors on other projects to ensure a consistent approach is taken to setting standards and procedures.
- Maintain harmonious and professional relationships with WorkSafe NZ.
Health Safety & Wellbeing
- Actively demonstrate safe work processes and behaviours and ensure these are followed by all employees and contractors in their place of work.
- Support the implementation of HS&E procedures for the Alliance as required.
- Attend safety meetings.
Other
- Participate in projects as necessary andassistwith other duties asrequired.
- Demonstrate the Alliance values and behaviours and actively promote to others.
Required Skills and Competencies
- NZQA qualifications in Health and Safety Management
- Technician level (minimum) Professional Registration with NZISM or IOSH.
- Minimum3years Civil construction and Major project experience in operational Health and Safety
- Experience with New Zealand Guide Temporary Traffic Management (NZGTTM)
- Experience in Temporary Traffic Management risk assessments under NZGTTM
- Experience with ACC management and claims.
- Experience in ISO and 45001 standards
- A comprehensive understanding of legislation regulatory and other contract requirements in the construction industry.
