Work Calendar: 185 Day Service

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

GENERAL PURPOSE

Under the supervision of a Special Education Supervisor and with the direction of the Transition Specialist and/or Project Coordinator the Job Coach will develop job opportunities within the school and community setting monitor and report on student progress and provide support in ongoing job readiness skills.

MAIN JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Work with students to prepare students for the workplace

  • Conduct student transition assessments interest inventories and mock interviews to ascertain employment goals.
  • Develop job explorations based on students aptitudes and interests.
  • Perform job/task analysis to determine training strategies and assist in retraining students as needed.
  • Explore community resources and natural supports to determine reasonable accommodations necessary for specific job explorations and assist in the development of work-adjustment behaviors.
  • Coordinate with Transition Specialist regarding program implementation and complete case notes and/or data collection sheets to document student progress.
  • Attend IEP meetings for individual students at the request of the school to report out on student progress.
  • Provide support to Project SEARCH at Mary Washington Hospital to include launching times and substituting when directed by the Transition Specialist.
  • Develop lesson plans for Community Based Instruction.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma G.E.D. or any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work environment is primarily inside with moderate noise temperatures that are controlled and no exposure to chemicals or other negative air quality elements.
  • The work is light work requiring exertion of up to 20 pounds of force to move or lift objects.
  • The following physical and mental abilities are representative of those expected to complete the essential functions of the job: standing for prolonged periods; sitting for prolonged periods; moving the hands wrists or fingers repetitively; moving with force on the back or lower body repetitively; feeling grasping or holding objections by hand; identifying colors visually; identifying objects in low light or distant conditions; communicating via spoken language; communicating via written language; perceiving sounds; making decisions using logic and rational thinking.
