Calgary Communities Against Sexual Abuse (CCASA) is a dynamic agency that focuses on providing sexual violence counselling and education services to Calgary and surrounding areas. Working at CCASA means joining a team of passionate hard-working professionals who are committed to providing a healthy society that is respectful open and a Sexual Violence Support Counsellor you will be part of the Calgary Sexual Assault Team (CSART) a collaborative partnership between CCASA Alberta Health Services Calgary Region Calgary Police Service area RCMP and the Crown Prosecutors Office. This 24-hour crisis response team provides specialized care to individuals who have been sexually assaulted within the past 168 hours. The successful candidates will be compassionate flexible and organized individuals who are able to work both independently and within a multi-disciplinary team to providecrisis intervention information support advocacy and referrals.
These are on call casual positions reporting to the CCASA Crisis and Support Program Supervisors. If you have a great attitude and possess an anti-oppressive/feminist analysis of sexual violence this may be the job for you.
Key responsibilities of the Sexual Violence Support CounsellorCSART include:
- Providing crisis intervention and providing in the moment emotional support as a member of the Calgary Sexual Assault Response Team (CSART) to individuals who have experienced sexual assault within the last 168 hours
- Responding to and supporting disclosures of sexual abuse/assault in a trauma-informed professional and supportive manner
- Completing thorough assessments related to suicide risk domestic violence children at risk and shelter safety
- Providing information advocacy and referrals
- Working collaboratively with professionals from other disciplines
*If successful applicants must be available for the following training dates:
- Wednesday May 13 2026 from 5:30pm-8:30pm - on zoom
- Thursday May 14 2026 from 5:30pm-8:30pm - on zoom
- Saturday May 16 2026 from 9:30am-4:00 in person
AND - Training Shifts scheduled between May-July 2026 (staff will participate in a minimum of 3 on-site training shifts).
The role requires a minimum of 4 shifts a month and requires both weekday and weekend overnight shifts. The weekday shifts are Monday to Friday from 5:00pm-8:00am and the weekend/holiday shifts are 8:00am-8:00pm and 8:00pm-8:00am.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Social Work or social/human services with a minimum of two years related work experience
- Possess an anti-oppressive/feminist analysis of sexual violence
- Strong assessment and crisis intervention skills
- Demonstrated effective communication advocacy and rapport building skills
- Understanding of trauma informed practice
- Strong knowledge of community resources within Calgary and surrounding areas
- Ability to build professional relationships within a multi-disciplinary team
- Knowledge of Alberta College of Social Workers Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice
- Must be registered if degree falls under a regulatory body
- Must have access to a vehicle
