This temporary role supports the Citys Abilities Management team which helps employees stay at work or return to work safely when they are experiencing injury or illness. The team works with employees leaders unions and health professionals to make sure people have the right support at the right time.

The role is part of the People and Culture department and works closely with the Health Safety and Wellness team. You will help update and improve Abilities Management Program processes and tools so information is clear practical and easy to use. This work helps leaders and employees understand their roles and responsibilities and supports consistent practices across the organization.

As part of the Abilities Management team you will gain handson experience with research writing and work-task coordination. Training guidance and regular support will be provided throughout the placement.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the Abilities Management Program through research analysis and coordination
  • Reviewing how other organizations manage injury illness and workplace accommodations to identify best practices
  • Helping develop and update clear written materials such as guides templates and stepbystep processes
  • Assisting with plainlanguage documentation that helps leaders and employees understand how the program works
  • Supporting the creation of practical tools and resources used by employees supervisors and other partners
  • Coordinating feedback and revisions with project partners and subject matter experts
  • Tracking tasks timelines and deliverables to help keep the work-tasks on schedule
  • Providing general administrative and program support to the Abilities Management team

This role is a good fit for someone who is organized curious and interested in learning how workplace health and accommodation programs support people in real and meaningful ways. This position is designed to provide handson learning in a supportive team environment.

Auxiliary status employees will be paid an additional 15% in lieu of vacation holiday sick leave beyond the statutory requirement and other benefits per the CUPE Local 50 Collective Agreement.

WORK FROM HOME

The successful candidate for this posting may be eligible for participation in a hybrid work from home arrangement in alignment with the Citys Work from Home Policy. Such arrangements are determined with each employee and subject to change based on operational needs and policy direction.

POSITION FUNCTION

As an IMPACT Initiative Associate hired under the City of Victorias Inclusive Municipal Program for Advancing Careers and Training you will be given meaningful and challenging assignments while being introduced to a career in municipal this Associate position you will assist with projects within a specific City department contribute to the overall goals of the work unit have job shadowing opportunities and participate in educational experiences.

KEY DUTIES

  • Collaborate closely and actively participate in feedback sessions with a supervisor to contribute to the continuous improvement of the organizations operations.
  • Utilize tools and software platforms under the direct guidance of your supervisor.
  • Participate actively in the development and enhancement of projects aligned with the departments strategic goals.
  • Provide valuable field and/or office support to support the successful execution of assigned projects.
  • Collaborate with team members to facilitate shared learning and contribute to the evaluation and implementation of innovative solutions. Maintain detailed records of your work process including any challenges encountered and problem-solving approaches employed.
  • Collaborate with colleagues from different departments or teams on cross-functional projects to gain a broader perspective and develop a well-rounded skill set supporting your knowledge and success in a municipal career.
  • Attend and actively participate in educational activities that enhance your knowledge and skills aligning with IMPACT program objectives and the departments needs.

  • Work is assigned by supervisor and reviewed upon completion.

Formal Education Training and Occupational Certification:

Have language proficiency in English (equivalent to Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) Level 6).

Experience:

IMPACT Initiative Associates require at least 6 months of fundamental knowledge and practical experience related to tasks and responsibilities similar to those outlined in the position or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
