The Pride Community Centreis a service of the McMaster Students Union. We provide a contact point for McMaster students that may identify as gay lesbian bisexual transgender queer and/or any of the other diverse identities that make up our community. We offer educational programming and access to resources of interest as well as peer support and a physical space for students to meet and socialize with each other. As advocates for gender & sexual diversity the PCCs mandate upholds that LGBTQ students are entitled to a safe and supportive campus absent of homophobia and transphobia where the expression of ones gender & sexual identity is welcomed and respected.
General Scope of Duties
The Research and Resources Coordinator will be responsible for building curating and managing the PCC Resource Library. They will work with fellow executives and committee volunteers to organize and develop informational material into various media forms for the purpose of educating McMasters student body. The Research and Resources Coordinator will also be in charge of providing an up to date research background for relevant PCC campaigns and initiatives. Further they will work closely with the Volunteer and Training Coordinator assisting with Peer Support Volunteer training.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Awareness and understanding topics associated with the PCC (i.e. cissexism transphobia heteronormativity homophobia intersectionality safe space LGBTQ2SI identities)
- Knowledge of LGBTQ2SI history and movements and current social justice topics
- Ability to challenge dominant views
- Strong working knowledge of anti-oppressive practices intersectionality and inclusion
- Leadership interpersonal and supervisory skills
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Organizational and time management skills
- Ability to coordinate team of volunteers to ensure successful completion of tasks
- Writing and editing skills
- Research skills and critical thinking abilities
- Knowledge regarding LGBTQ2SI based resources on and off campus is an asset
Effort & Responsibility
- Ability to function well with people in crisis
- Maintain confidentiality of all individuals accessing the PCC
- Effort required to think creatively
- Expected to interact closely with a group of volunteers
Working Conditions
- Time demands may exceed stated hours of work during busy periods
Training and Experience
- Past experience with the PCC is an asset
- Peer Support experience is preferred
- Necessary training will be provided and required
