About the Role

We are seeking a Restoration Specialist (Contract) to support environmental restoration projects across Alberta. This role is intended for an independent incorporated contractor who will provide specialized restoration expertise on a projectbyproject or seasonal basis.

The successful contractor will support linear disturbance restoration wetland reclamation and habitat restoration projects contributing to planning field implementation construction support and monitoring programs. Work will be delivered in close collaboration with multidisciplinary consulting teams Indigenous partners regulators and clients.

This role is best suited to an experienced selfdirected practitioner with deep Alberta restoration experience who is comfortable operating independently while integrating into project teams.

Key Responsibilities

Project Delivery & Field Programs

  • Support field-based restoration activities including:
    • Linear feature restoration (e.g. seismic lines access trails rightofways)
    • Wetland and riparian restoration
    • Erosion control soil bioengineering and revegetation programs
  • Conduct field assessments to inform restoration planning including site condition assessments baseline surveys and restoration feasibility evaluations.
  • Support construction and implementation phases through environmental oversight field supervision and adaptive management.

Restoration Planning & Design

  • Contribute to the development of restoration and reclamation plans including site prescriptions planting plans and monitoring frameworks.
  • Apply best management practices and current science to restoration design appropriate for Alberta landscapes and ecosystems.
  • Support preparation of cost estimates schedules and scopes of work for restoration projects.

Monitoring & Reporting

  • Design and implement post-restoration monitoring programs.
  • Analyze and interpret field data to evaluate restoration effectiveness.
  • Prepare technical reports memos and regulatory deliverables.

Regulatory & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work within applicable provincial and federal regulatory frameworks (e.g. Alberta Wetland Policy Water Act Public Lands Act).
  • Support permitting and regulatory submissions related to restoration activities.
  • Collaborate with Indigenous partners landowners regulators and clients in a professional and respectful manner.

Team & Business Support

  • Work collaboratively with ecologists biologists engineers and project managers.
  • Mentor junior staff and field technicians as appropriate.
  • Support proposal development and business growth initiatives related to restoration services.

Nature of Engagement (Contractual Requirement)

This position is available only to incorporated independent contractors. Individuals must:

  • Operate through their own legally incorporated company.
  • Be able to enter into a professional services contract.
  • Provide standard contractor documentation upon engagement including but not limited to:
    • Certificate of Incorporation
    • Proof of GST registration
    • Proof of WCB coverage (or equivalent)
    • Appropriate insurance as required

Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma or degree in Ecology Environmental Science Natural Resource Management Biology Forestry or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in ecological restoration reclamation or related environmental consulting work.
  • Demonstrated experience with Albertabased restoration projects particularly linear disturbance or wetland restoration.
  • Strong field skills including ability to work in remote locations and variable conditions.
  • Knowledge of Alberta vegetation soils wetlands and restoration techniques.
  • Valid Class 5 drivers licence and ability to conduct fieldwork.

Preferred

  • Professional designation or eligibility (e.g. . RPBio. . RPF).
  • Experience working on Indigenousled or communitybased restoration projects.
  • Experience with erosion and sediment control soil bioengineering or revegetation design.
  • Familiarity with GIS GPS/data collection tools and field data management.
  • Experience supporting construction or contractorled restoration programs.
