Frontend Engineer with React Search

How you will make an impact 

 is Metros online shop that acts as the central hub of its digital business and the primary destination where all Food Service Distribution (FSD) customer delivery orders are placed. 

You will be joining the  solution as part of the Search Team. This team sits at the heart of the platform owning all search-related aspects within . Product search and presentation are fundamental to METROs commercial success and the Search Team plays a vital role in ensuring that all METRO digital solutions receive accurate and relevant product search results whenever needed and serving customers at every touchpoint. 

This product team is the engine driving online sales supporting customer decisions by bringing products to life through compelling data-driven storytelling. 

The team responsibilities include managing article ranking controlling how products are displayed on both the search results page and the product detail page and delivering search results to a wide range of internal and external teams. 

Your Responsibilities: 

• Being involved in all phases of software engineering from inception to coding testing delivery and operation; 
• Developing high quality code that follows best practices and clean code principles; 
• Advocate for improvements to product quality security and performance; 
• Collaborating with other engineers or team members on various layers of the infrastructure in order to design and launch new features; 
• Interacting with the client in order to understand and characterize their needs and advise them if necessary. 

Qualifications :

Required key competencies and qualifications: 

• Proven experience in developing modern scalable web applications using TypeScript and React (including hooks and functional components) 
• Strong understanding of frontend architecture including state management (e.g. Redux Zustand Context API) build tools (e.g. Webpack Vite) and styling (e.g. Sass) 
• Experience with performance optimization and monitoring (e.g. Lighthouse) and a solid approach to reducing technical debt 
• Good knowledge of testing practices (e.g. Jest React Testing Library) 
• Proven experience in backend development using Java/Kotlin (JVM ecosystem) with modern frameworks and tools 
• Solid understanding of relational and non-relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL Cassandra) 
• Experience with cloud-native development and containerization (Docker Kubernetes) 
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (e.g. GitHub Actions) and DevOps practices 
• Experience working with cloud platforms (preferably GCP alternatively AWS or Azure) 
• Strong understanding of software engineering best practices clean code principles and maintainable architecture.

Nice to have: 

• Experience with Micro Frontend architectures 
• Knowledge of accessibility (a11y) standards and best practices 
• Familiarity with design systems or component libraries 
• Experience with mobile-first development approaches 
• Exposure to infrastructure as code and observability tools (e.g. Terraform ArgoCD Datadog APM) 
• Experience with Jetty-based frameworks or similar setupsVery good fluency in English (written and verbal).
