Position Overview
The Manager Health Safety & Environment (HSE) is responsible for developing implementing and maintaining effective HSE management systems policies and programs to ensure a safe and healthy workplace at Alcon. This role provides strategic leadership and guidance on HSE matters ensuring compliance with local state and federal regulations as well as Alcons internal standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development implementation and continuous improvement of HSE policies procedures and initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation codes of practice and industry standards relating to workplace health safety and environment.
- Conduct regular risk assessments audits and inspections to identify hazards and implement corrective actions as required.
- Provide expert advice and support to management and staff on HSE matters fostering a proactive safety culture.
- Coordinate incident investigations root cause analysis and reporting ensuring lessons learned are shared and corrective actions completed.
- Develop and deliver HSE training programs for employees at all levels.
- Monitor and report on HSE performance metrics preparing regular reports for senior leadership.
- Manage relationships with external regulatory bodies and participate in industry forums as required.
- Promote environmental sustainability initiatives and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelors degree in Occupational Health & Safety Environmental Science or a related field (postgraduate qualifications desirable).
- Minimum 5 years experience in a similar HSE management role preferably within the healthcare pharmaceutical or manufacturing sectors.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Australian HSE legislation and standards.
- Strong leadership communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to influence and drive cultural change regarding safety and environment.
- Professional certifications (e.g. Cert IV in Work Health and Safety Lead Auditor) are highly regarded.
