Your new role
The Kinship Care First Supports Program supports children in statutory kinship care placements where Child Protection are involved and the placement is expected to last more than 3 months. The program aims to identify kinship networks early strengthen family reunification where possible promote placement stability and prevent children from being placed in residential care unnecessarily.
As a First Supports Case Worker you will undertake comprehensive assessments and provide recommendations to Child Protection about the suitability of kinship care placements. The First Supports Case Worker will consider risk factors strengths and weaknesses of the placement and identify the childs individual needs. The role will support children to settle within the placement and support kinship carers to build their capacity to respond to the childs safety stability and developmental needs.

Your skills and experience
To be successful in your application you will meet the person specification in the position description including having a tertiary qualification in social work welfare work or a related discipline.
You will also have:
- Demonstrated experience working with children young people and families with complex needs
- An understanding of the out of home care and child protection systems
- Strong risk assessment skills
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain comprehensive case notes client files and reports in a timely manner
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
