Position: Network Data Center Engineer ( Strong NetBox SME )

Location: 100% Remote

Duration: 12 Month Contract

1. Key Responsibilities

Infrastructure Modeling & Management: Designing and maintaining the data structure within NetBox including IP Address Management (IPAM) Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) rack layouts and cable paths.
NetDevOps Integration: Using NetBoxs API to integrate with network automation tools such as Ansible Terraform or NAPALM. This involves driving network provisioning from NetBox data rather than manual configuration.
System Administration: Installing upgrading and maintaining the NetBox instance often using Docker Compose in a Linux environment.
Data Accuracy & Governance: Auditing the accuracy of data in NetBox and mapping it against the live network to identify and resolve configuration drift.
Customization: Developing custom scripts custom fields and utilizing plugins to tailor NetBox to specific organizational workflows.

2. Required Technical Skills

Deep NetBox Knowledge: Thorough understanding of NetBox components (sites racks devices IPAM VLANs VRFs circuits).
Network Automation/Networking Knowledge: Strong understanding of IP addressing (IPv4/IPv6) VLANs BGP and network cabling.
Python/API Proficiency: Experience utilizing REST APIs for data manipulation and working with libraries like pynetbox.
Linux & Containers: Proficiency with Ubuntu/RHEL Linux Docker Docker Compose and PostgreSQL.
Git/DevOps Tools: Using Git for managing custom scripts or configurations and familiarity with CI/CD pipelines.

3. SME-Specific Authority Tasks

Training & Mentorship: Acting as the go-to person for junior engineers educating them on the correct way to document networks.
Technical Strategy: Advising management on network documentation strategies and how to move from legacy documentation (spreadsheets/Visio) to NetBox.
Problem Solving: Resolving complex issues related to NetBox performance or integration with other ITSM tools (e.g. Jira ServiceNow)
