Director of Labor & Delivery

Full-Time Leadership Role

Athena Health Care is seeking a dynamic and strategic Director of Labor & Delivery to lead inpatient obstetric services at a high-performing medical center. Reporting to executive nursing and operations leadership this role is responsible for advancing clinical excellence operational performance and patient-centered care across Labor & Delivery services.

This leader will play a critical role in driving transformation aligned with the Quadruple Aim ensuring high reliability improved patient outcomes and exceptional caregiver and patient experiences.

• Provide strategic and operational oversight of Labor & Delivery services
• Ensure delivery of safe high-quality evidence-based care
• Align clinical practices with regional and organizational standards

• Develop and manage performance metrics and balanced scorecards
• Drive initiatives to improve quality reduce variation and enhance care coordination
• Leverage data analytics and benchmarking to inform decision-making

• Coach mentor and develop managers and frontline leaders
• Foster a culture of accountability collaboration and continuous improvement
• Promote employee engagement and caregiver experience

• Partner with physician leaders and interdisciplinary teams to improve outcomes
• Strengthen relationships across clinical and operational departments
• Support patient and provider satisfaction initiatives

• Lead budget planning financial management and resource allocation
• Ensure alignment with operational and financial performance goals
• Optimize staffing models and throughput in a dynamic healthcare environment

• Lead transformation initiatives using Lean Six Sigma or similar methodologies
• Implement technology-driven solutions to enhance care delivery and outcomes

• Masters degree in Nursing Healthcare Administration (MHA) or Business Administration (MBA)
• Bachelors degree in Nursing (if Masters is in a different field)
• Active Washington State Registered Nurse (RN) License upon hire
• Nursing leadership certification within 2 years of hire

• Minimum 5 years of progressive healthcare leadership experience
• Experience managing complex clinical operations and multidisciplinary teams
• Background in process improvement and performance management
• Experience working in a unionized healthcare environment

• Strong financial acumen (budgeting reimbursement cost management)
• Data-driven decision-making with experience in analytics and benchmarking
• Proven ability to lead change using Lean Six Sigma or similar frameworks
• Exceptional communication collaboration and conflict-resolution skills
• Servant leadership mindset with the ability to influence across a matrixed organization
