Athena Health Care is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Laboratory Supervisor II Chemistry to oversee core laboratory operations with a focus on Auto Chemistry. This role is responsible for supervising laboratory workflow ensuring quality and compliance and providing day-to-day leadership to laboratory staff.
Reporting to the Laboratory Manager this position plays a critical role in maintaining operational excellence regulatory compliance and high-quality patient testing outcomes.
Supervise daily laboratory operations including sample processing testing and results reporting
Monitor workflow efficiency and ensure adherence to turnaround time and service standards
Ensure compliance with specimen quality requirements and laboratory protocols
Serve as a technical expert in Chemistry supporting troubleshooting and complex testing
Quality & Compliance
Ensure adherence to corporate policies regulatory standards and accreditation requirements
Participate in and support quality assurance and performance improvement programs
Monitor key performance metrics and identify opportunities for process improvement
Support CAP surveys incident reporting and laboratory audits
Leadership & Team Development
Provide leadership coaching and mentorship to laboratory staff
Oversee hiring performance evaluations disciplinary actions and professional development
Facilitate training programs and competency assessments
Foster a positive collaborative and high-performing work environment
Workflow & Staffing Management
Develop staffing plans to ensure optimal coverage and productivity
Delegate responsibilities and ensure continuity of operations during staff absences
Review timecards approve time-off requests and manage scheduling needs
Assist with bench work as needed to support operational demands
QualificationsRequired:
Bachelors degree in Medical Technology Biological Sciences or related field
Minimum 6 years of clinical laboratory experience in Chemistry
Strong technical expertise in Clinical Chemistry / Auto Chemistry
Current Florida Supervisor License in Clinical Chemistry (and Serology preferred)
Active certification from a recognized agency:
ASCPAMT or AAB
Experience as a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)
Preferred Qualifications
Prior supervisory experience in a high-volume clinical laboratory
Experience with process improvement initiatives
Strong knowledge of CAP state and federal laboratory regulations
