The Supervisor II Laboratory

Schedule: Tuesday Friday 9:00 AM 7:00 PM Rotating Saturdays (every 12 weeks)

Athena Health Care is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Laboratory Supervisor II Chemistry to oversee core laboratory operations with a focus on Auto Chemistry. This role is responsible for supervising laboratory workflow ensuring quality and compliance and providing day-to-day leadership to laboratory staff.

Reporting to the Laboratory Manager this position plays a critical role in maintaining operational excellence regulatory compliance and high-quality patient testing outcomes.

• Supervise daily laboratory operations including sample processing testing and results reporting
• Monitor workflow efficiency and ensure adherence to turnaround time and service standards
• Ensure compliance with specimen quality requirements and laboratory protocols
• Serve as a technical expert in Chemistry supporting troubleshooting and complex testing

• Ensure adherence to corporate policies regulatory standards and accreditation requirements
• Participate in and support quality assurance and performance improvement programs
• Monitor key performance metrics and identify opportunities for process improvement
• Support CAP surveys incident reporting and laboratory audits

• Provide leadership coaching and mentorship to laboratory staff
• Oversee hiring performance evaluations disciplinary actions and professional development
• Facilitate training programs and competency assessments
• Foster a positive collaborative and high-performing work environment

• Develop staffing plans to ensure optimal coverage and productivity
• Delegate responsibilities and ensure continuity of operations during staff absences
• Review timecards approve time-off requests and manage scheduling needs
• Assist with bench work as needed to support operational demands

• Bachelors degree in Medical Technology Biological Sciences or related field
• Minimum 6 years of clinical laboratory experience in Chemistry
• Strong technical expertise in Clinical Chemistry / Auto Chemistry
• Current Florida Supervisor License in Clinical Chemistry (and Serology preferred)
• Active certification from a recognized agency:
  • ASCP AMT or AAB
• Experience as a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)

• Prior supervisory experience in a high-volume clinical laboratory
• Experience with process improvement initiatives
• Strong knowledge of CAP state and federal laboratory regulations
