JOB TITLE:
Research Laboratory Technician
JOB PURPOSE:
The Research Laboratory Technician will support ongoing research in the Suyama Lab in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Wyoming with a focus on chemical biology and drug delivery. Responsibilities include maintaining mammalian cell culture systems and performing routine biological assays. This position contributes directly to active research projects and is suited for individuals seeking hands-on experience in a multidisciplinary research lab at the interface of chemistry and biology.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain mammalian cell cultures including routine passaging media preparation and sterile technique.
- Assist in routine cell-based assays (e.g. viability assays such as MTT or related assays) following established protocols.
- Prepare reagents buffers and solutions for laboratory experiments.
- Assist with experimental setup including plating cells and organizing assay materials.
- Perform basic laboratory tasks such as cleaning glassware maintaining lab organization and restocking supplies.
- Accurately record experimental activities and assist in data organization.
- Follow all laboratory safety protocols and standard operating procedures.
- Other assigned tasks to aid in the research lab
COMPETENCIES:
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow protocols precisely
- Good organizational and communication skills
- Reliability and consistency in completing routine tasks
- Ability to work independently once trained and manage time effectively
- Ability to maintain experimental continuity across multi-day workflows
- Ability to perform basic laboratory calculations including solution preparation dilutions and concentration determinations
- Interest in biomedical or chemical biology research
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors degree (completed or in progress) in chemistry molecular biology biochemistry or a related field
- Prior research experience required
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Prior experience with mammalian cell culture and sterile technique
- Previous research or laboratory work experience in relevant areas
- Preference for candidates able to commit to the position for approximately 12 months
- Recent graduates (post-baccalaureate) planning to pursue graduate or professional school are encouraged to apply
