JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The Clinical Dental Assistant provides chairside assistance clinical/laboratory support and facilities maintenance for residents and faculty members in the Kingsport Dental Clinic.

1. Assists operator at the dental chair using 4-handed dentistry; arranges instruments materials and medications on prepared tray and aids dental operator (dental student/faculty).
2. Provides chairside assistance to the dental hygienist. Seats and prepares patients for treatment.
3. Clears operating area during procedures by use of suction devices water sprays rubber dams cotton rolls and holders and by retraction of cheek/tongue.
4. Prepares and/or mixes impression materials.
5. Takes primary impressions of patients teeth for study casts.
6. Creates and trims provisional restorations.
7. Cleans excess cement following clinical luting procedures.
8. Assists with clinical photographic procedures.
9. Receives processes and accesses patient records; makes entries of procedures materials used amount of time involved number of charges etc.
10. Counsels with patients following clinical procedures; explains instructions and directions outlined for treatment by the doctor; teaches oral hygiene strategies.
11. Ensures working area instruments and equipment meet OSHA sterilization regulations.
12. Performs preventive equipment maintenance and routine maintenance.
13. Maintains all CEREC milling machines and assists dental students and faculty with milling and milling preparation.
14. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of experience working in a dental office or dental laboratory Must maintain registration as a licensed dental assistant in the State of Tennessee. Nitrous Oxide Monitoring and Radiology Certification required. (PROOF OF LICENSURE IS REQUIRED). (Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) with the Dental Assistant National Board Certification (DANB) is preferred. Graduate of CODA accredited school preferred.)

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:A Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) in the State of Tennessee with certification in radiology and nitrous oxide monitoring is required. Must maintain CPR certification. CDA (DANB) certification preferred.(PROOF OF LICENSURE IS REQUIRED)
