Job Summary
Department Overview
The Equipment Pool Technician performs routine work in the decontamination assembly testing and distribution of medical equipment supplies and instruments in a medical facility.It is distinguished from the higher levels by the absence of responsibility for performing advanced and complicated sterilization assembly and testing of medical equipment supplies and instruments.
Function/Duties of Position
- Pickup used equipment from OHSU clinics patient care areas and other locations as designated on the fixed pick-up schedule.
- Use knowledge of sterilization and infection control principles to properly decontaminate instrumentation and equipment.
- Appropriately operate equipment including but not limited to computers scanners telephones printer equipment dryer electric carts bed lifts and voceras.
- Performs routine instrument and equipment quality checks on medical equipment on the following but not limited to code carts PAPR eye wash station airway rolls and EVD kits.
- Dispense equipment & instrumentation using the HEMS tracking system Restocking of Carts put away (instruments supplies and equipment). Maintains Patient & Customer Focus.
- Assists with in servicing and orientation of staff both new and those in assignment rotation.
- Maintain records patient specialty placement equipment and reports according to established policies procedures and standard work.
- Maintain a clean and neat work area.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- One year experience providing customer service to a high volume customer base.
- Proficient with MS Office.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2 years job experience in a hospital clinic or medical laboratory with exposure to decontamination and cleaning processesOR
- 2 years materials handling experience including inventory and stocking of perishable supplies.
Additional Details
- Rotate weekends work various shifts and holidays
- Work with detergents enzymes germicide and other related chemicals
- Risk of exposure to infectious disease blood body fluids and/or tissue as well as other unpleasant elements such as accidents injuries and illness
- Risk of exposure to and be required to handle varying unpredictable emergency and crisis situations
- Risk of exposure to frustrated or violent patients
- PPE when necessary: gloves mask gown bonnet and shoe covers
- Position is considered an essential role in hospital operations and providing/supporting patient care
