Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital is hiring a Full-Time Night shift Patient Care Technician for our Short Stay/ Surgical Observation Unit!

Hours 6pm to 6am with rotating weekends

Wendell 2 is an award-winning Surgical Short Stay unit with 24 beds specializing in womens health ortho/spine general surgery and bariatrics with an RN ratio of 1:5 or 1:6. These are all short stay populations with heavy discharge turnover. If you enjoy a quick pace- Wendell 2 is the place for you! Operating primarily on 12-hour shifts with weekend rotations the team includes Patient Care Technicians covering 8-12 patients Unit Coordinators Resource Nurses and an outstanding Educator with over 20 years of experience. The unit emphasizes comprehensive staff development through a robust orientation program where managers and educators meet biweekly to optimize learning making it an ideal environment for both experienced nurses and new graduates seeking skill development. Wendell 2 fosters a collaborative atmosphere with a multidisciplinary team blending the resources of a major medical center with community hospital warmth all while maintaining a focus on patient safety and quality care.

The Patient Care Technician provides patient care support independent and dependent activities of daily living vital signs mobility and ambulation phlebotomy point of care testing EKG testing peripheral IV removal specimen collection and foley catheter insertion and removal and comply with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional RN nurse. Observe patients physical mental and emotional conditions and document in a timely and accurate manner while reporting any change to the nurse or medical staff.

Education:

• HS High School Grad or Equivalent

• One of the following programs: Sentara Care Partner Certification Program successful completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT) completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School Emergency Services to include EMR EMS EMT AEMT and Paramedic or current student enrolled in a clinical program having completed at least one semester of a (RN LPN RT or PT) or current work experience within last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant.

Certifications/Licensure:

• AHA BLS certification within 90 days of hire.

Experience:

• One year of health care experience is preferred.
