Job Title: Special Education Teacher Assistant Autism & Visual Impairment Support Location: Leesburg VA 20175 Type: Contract
Position Overview: Navitas Healthcare LLC is seeking a compassionate and dependable Special Education Teacher Assistant to support students in an Autism and Multiple Disabilities classroom with a focus on 1:1 support for students who are blind or visually impaired. This role collaborates closely with the classroom teacher licensed Teacher of the Blind/Visually Impaired and therapy staff to create a structured inclusive and supportive learning environment that fosters student independence and success.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in implementing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) under teacher direction
Provide 1:1 support to students who are blind or visually impaired
Support classroom instruction and structured learning activities
Apply behavioral support and reinforcement strategies
Assist with communication development and social skill building
Support safe mobility navigation and transitions throughout the school day
Maintain a safe organized and structured classroom environment
Document student participation progress and behavioral observations
Collaborate with teachers VI specialists therapists and support staff
Visual Impairment Support Responsibilities:
Work under the direction of a licensed Teacher of the Blind/Visually Impaired
Assist students with accessing instructional materials and classroom activities
Support orientation mobility and participation in a classroom setting
Provide individualized assistance tailored to visual and sensory needs
Qualifications:
Previous experience in special education or working with students with visual impairments preferred
Strong communication collaboration and interpersonal skills
Patience empathy and a commitment to student development and independence
