Job Title: Special Education Teacher Assistant Autism & Visual Impairment Support

Position Overview:
Navitas Healthcare LLC is seeking a compassionate and dependable Special Education Teacher Assistant to support students in an Autism and Multiple Disabilities classroom with a focus on 1:1 support for students who are blind or visually impaired. This role collaborates closely with the classroom teacher licensed Teacher of the Blind/Visually Impaired and therapy staff to create a structured inclusive and supportive learning environment that fosters student independence and success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in implementing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) under teacher direction
- Provide 1:1 support to students who are blind or visually impaired
- Support classroom instruction and structured learning activities
- Apply behavioral support and reinforcement strategies
- Assist with communication development and social skill building
- Support safe mobility navigation and transitions throughout the school day
- Maintain a safe organized and structured classroom environment
- Document student participation progress and behavioral observations
- Collaborate with teachers VI specialists therapists and support staff
Visual Impairment Support Responsibilities:
- Work under the direction of a licensed Teacher of the Blind/Visually Impaired
- Assist students with accessing instructional materials and classroom activities
- Support orientation mobility and participation in a classroom setting
- Provide individualized assistance tailored to visual and sensory needs
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in special education or working with students with visual impairments preferred
- Strong communication collaboration and interpersonal skills
- Patience empathy and a commitment to student development and independence
