Position Overview:
Navitas Healthcare LLC is seeking a compassionate and dependable Special Education Teacher Assistant to support students in an Autism and Multiple Disabilities classroom with a focus on 1:1 support for students who are blind or visually impaired. This role collaborates closely with the classroom teacher licensed Teacher of the Blind/Visually Impaired and therapy staff to create a structured inclusive and supportive learning environment that fosters student independence and success.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in implementing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) under teacher direction
• Provide 1:1 support to students who are blind or visually impaired
• Support classroom instruction and structured learning activities
• Apply behavioral support and reinforcement strategies
• Assist with communication development and social skill building
• Support safe mobility navigation and transitions throughout the school day
• Maintain a safe organized and structured classroom environment
• Document student participation progress and behavioral observations
• Collaborate with teachers VI specialists therapists and support staff

Visual Impairment Support Responsibilities:

• Work under the direction of a licensed Teacher of the Blind/Visually Impaired
• Assist students with accessing instructional materials and classroom activities
• Support orientation mobility and participation in a classroom setting
• Provide individualized assistance tailored to visual and sensory needs

Qualifications:

• Previous experience in special education or working with students with visual impairments preferred
• Strong communication collaboration and interpersonal skills
• Patience empathy and a commitment to student development and independence
