Shift: Variable (Mid or Night) 3x12
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled and adaptable Registered Nurse (RN) to join a fast-paced Emergency Department. The RN will provide direct patient care and family support within the full scope of practice ensuring high-quality patient-centered care in a dynamic environment.
This role requires strong clinical judgment effective communication and the ability to manage multiple priorities while collaborating with an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in accordance with established nursing standards
- Perform patient assessments monitoring and data collection
- Develop implement and evaluate individualized care plans
- Address patients physical psychological emotional educational and spiritual needs
- Collaborate with physicians advanced practice providers and interdisciplinary team members
- Participate in departmental programs quality initiatives and patient care improvements
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation using EMR systems
- Demonstrate strong communication time management and organizational skills
Charge Nurse Duties (as assigned):
- Coordinate patient flow and movement throughout the department
- Assign staff and manage unit workflow
- Receive and communicate pre-arrival reports from EMS
- Collaborate with triage nurses and house supervisors regarding patient throughput
- Work closely with providers ED techs ward clerks and crisis evaluators
- Support conflict resolution and team coordination
Required Education
- Associate of Applied Science in Nursing (AAS) required
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Required Certifications & Licensure
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of New York
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) required
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department experience
- Ability to work Mid or Night shifts
- Experience with Epic EMR required
- Experience in a chest pain accredited facility and/or primary stroke center preferred
- Prior charge nurse experience preferred
- Strong clinical communication and critical thinking skills
Department Overview
- 29 total treatment areas including monitored beds psych-safe rooms and hall beds
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 45:1 depending on patient acuity
- Dedicated case manager and social worker available during business hours (7 days/week)
- On-site crisis evaluators for mental health support
- ED technicians trained in phlebotomy EKGs and patient safety observation
- Provider coverage includes physicians and physician assistants across a 24-hour period
