Decision Support Cost Analyst
Job Summary
This position can be remote only for candidates residing in the following states: Nebraska (preferred) Georgia Idaho Iowa Kansas Missouri New Mexico North Carolina South Dakota or Tennessee.
A Brief Overview
The analyst is responsible for building maintaining and administration of the Financial Decision Support systems. Responsible for ensuring cost accounting is maintained and completed timely and accurately. Assists in developing and refining cost accounting methodologies and metrics that provide operational insight to leaders within the organization
Essential Functions
Cost Accounting:
Process owner and subject matter expert for cost accounting
Maintenance of cost accounting related dimensions tables in accordance with advanced costing procedures and methodologies
Responsible for accurate and timely completion of cost accounting processes to support monthly cost accounting close cycle.
Develop cost accounting methodologies and derive per-unit costing at the charge-code level
Maintain advanced costing procedures and methods to support institution wide cost management and patient based profitability reporting.
Responsible for RVU collection process indirect cost allocation activity-based costing supply-based costing and time-driven costing.
Continuously explore recommend and implement ways to increase the accuracy of costing including supplies and pharmaceuticals
Cross functional collaboration with other departments to develop implement validate and maintain data integrity and cost accounting RVUs
Reconcile revenue and expenses in costing to the general ledger on a monthly basis
System Data and Maintenance:
Maintain a thorough understanding of the flow of data throughout the FP&A and Decision Support systems
Maintain setup of various Decision Support dimension tables (i.e. department/account rollups hierarchies etc.)
Process owner for cost accounting RVUs entries set-up maintenance and optimization and develops and maintains methodology documentation
Cross functional collaboration with other departments to develop implement validate and maintain data integrity
Process owner for outpatient dialysis Home Health and professional Anesthesia billing and payment integrations including reconciliation and data integrity.
Reporting and Analytics:
Understand financial statements measures available reports and analytical tools
Query and analyze financial data
Build metrics and/or other reporting capabilities to Support the organization
Create and provide reports and education as requested
Advanced understanding of Costing (FP&A) processes and inputs
Ability to negotiate and prioritize multiple projects
Partner with other team members and/or individuals outside of Finance to make improvements to Costing (standard reporting)
Assist in preparation and analysis of monthly quarterly and/or annual service line profitability reports.
Education Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in business or healthcare administration finance accounting or related field required
Experience Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years progressive experience in finance cost accounting or financial analysis including 2 years experience in decision support system and/ or cost accounting is required
- Minimum 2 years experience in healthcare setting preferred
Skills and Abilities
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Windows environment
- Working knowledge of clinical and hospital information systems
- Working knowledge of the basic principles of accounting cost accounting healthcare reimbursement and general finance theories and methodologies
- Ability to work independently to determine methods or procedures on new or special assignments
- Ability to organize and manage projects
- Strong analytical skills
- Ability to work with tight deadlines and identify priorities in a fast-paced highly visible environment
- Strong people skills ability to build relationships collaborative and approachable
- Experience with reporting tools and business intelligence tools
- Experience with finance decision support and cost accounting systems and methodologies
- Experience with Strata or similar finance tool
