Job Description
The mission of the Academies of Loudoun is to empower students to explore research collaborate innovate andto makemeaningful contributions to the world in the fields of science technologyengineeringand mathematics (STEM). The Academies of Loudoun iscomprisedof three academies:
- Academy of Engineering & Technology (AET)
- Academy of Science (AOS)
- Monroe Advanced Technical Academy (MATA)
Teachers at the Academies of Loudoun must be ready to deliver advanced academic content and quality instruction to students who have made a commitment to a challenging STEM should also be willing tocollaborativelyplan and develop curriculumand engage inregular intentional conversations around instructionand data analysis.
Within the AOS program studentsdeeply engage in mathematics science and research. Teacherspromote creativity and innovation through problem solving and collaboration. The rigorous academic coursework prepares students for courses have components of statistics and modeling and are taught in terms of practical applicationtoalign with the science and courses taught are honors-level or above.
Roles and Responsibilities
The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed in relation to the position. This is not a comprehensive listing of all responsibilities or tasks; other work may be assigned whendeemedappropriate:
- Demonstrates strong interest and ability to collaborate with the instructional team todevelop cross-curricular researchthemesandproblem-basedlearningcontent.
- Demonstrates contentexpertiseand experiencerequiredto teach advanced levels ofsciencethrough the AP level; interest and willingness to help studentsdesign and learnthrough long-term research activities.
- Demonstrates knowledge ofmodern instructional pedagogywith the ability to deliver student centered instructionin awelcoming classroom environment.
- Demonstrates interpersonal skills necessary to collaboratedailywith other members of the team to plan and implementappropriate instructionaland/or learning strategies and activities.
- Evaluates student progress on a regular basis andmaintainsappropriate assessmentandevaluationdocumentation for institutional and individual reporting purposes.
- Establishes andmaintainsopen lines of communication with students and their parents.
- Manages the behavior of learners in an instructional setting to ensure that the environment is conducive to the learningprocess andassistsandparticipatesin management of student behavior in other parts of the school center school grounds or work site.
- Pursues professional growth through an ongoing program of reading and research attendance at workshops seminars and conferences and/or completing advanced coursework at institutions of higher learning.
- Collaborates with other professionals (guidance counselors librarians etc.) to carry out schoolwide instructional or related activities as needed.
Qualifications
Below are the qualifications for this position:
- Bachelors degree from an accredited university or college.
- Holds oreligiblefor a Virginia teaching license with an endorsement inappropriatesubjectarea.
- Demonstrated knowledge of subject content curriculum materials equipment of instructionalspecialtyassigned andmethodologyof effective teaching.
- Ability to apply knowledge of current researchpracticesandcontent related skillsto instructional programs.
- Skilled in the use of multi-media and computer technology to enhance learning.
- Ability toestablishand maintain effective collaborative relationships with students peers administrators and parents.
- Demonstrated skill in oral and writtencommunications.
State Requirement
Must have or be eligible for Virginia licensure endorsements are preferred but notrequired.
Preferences
- Experience and/or certification inenvironmentalchemistry and/or material science.
- Experience with Data Scienceanalyzing large data sets.
- Experience withmentoring student research.
