Senior Financial Analyst (50)
Job Summary
The Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst at 50% time to lead and guide all financial management activities for the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery in a cost-effective efficient and timely manner and assure responsible stewardship of the Universitys financial resources by establishing policies and procedures in compliance with internal and external regulations. Perform a broad range of accounting and financial analysis responsibilities to assure effective and compliant operations in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery. These responsibilities require a high degree of discretion and independent judgment.
Position Responsibilities
Collect maintain and analyze financial data across University UI Health Care Carver College of Medicine platforms to prepare periodic and standardized financial reports for internal and external use.
Develop and prepare reports that reflect activity levels with comparison to appropriate benchmarks.
Analyze and distribute data from monthly accounting reports.
Review budgets for all accounts in the department and check for accuracy.
Answer questions and resolve account discrepancies both internal and external.
Serve as a resource related to billing matters for the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery.
Prepare special and periodic reports as required.
Collaborate with the DAO in the preparation of yearly budgets for the department.
Review external funding account transactions and assist with Grant Accounting closeout/review of financial transactions.
Provide timely reports on variances from such established budget and make recommendations to reduce unfavorable budget variances.
Provide direction and assistance to departmental administrative staff and faculty based on the budget.
Recommend process improvement and create innovative processes that will improve the departments operations.
Assist in development and maintenance of account databases and reporting.
Assist in yearly balancing/closing of accounts by coordinating with Accounting & Financial Reporting and the College of Medicine.
Recommend and assist in developing training solutions related to university policies.
Contribute to implementation of policies and procedures.
Review transactions for appropriateness of expenditures and reconcile differences with departments and sponsors
Complete CVs for payroll and general expenses.
Works directly with UI Center for Advancement to track accounts.
Serves an approval officer for departmental transactions in Workflow.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements
Bachelors degree in Business Administration or Accounting or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Minimum of 3-5 years experience in Accounting or Financial Analysis.
Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
Must be proficient in all Microsoft Office Suite software applications.
Must be proficient in statistical and financial analysis.
Desired Qualifications
Familiarity with grant accounting and management.
Knowledge of University practices rules and regulations.
