Department Description:
The Campaign Manager is part of the Development & Membership branch a team of 18 staff members leading organization-wide fundraising efforts. This includes a robust range of programs membership major gifts events legacy gifts grants campaigns and other special fundraising initiatives. The Development team is critical to identifying engaging stewarding and leveraging philanthropic public and individual support to advance the Parks Conservancys mission in San Francisco Marin and San Mateo Counties.
Position Overview:
This is a term-limited position. The term of the assignment is anticipated to be approximately three years in duration from May 2026 to March 2029. Redwood Renewal is a sweeping multi-year effort to help protect the health of Muir Woods for the next generations. Over the past decade the Parks Conservancy and National Park Service have completed a series of projects leading into this latest effort including implementation of a parking reservation system repairs to the Redwood Creek habitat and updates to Muir Woods water infrastructure. This campaign marks the next chapter focusing on furthering the conservation engagement and sustainability of this rare ecosystem over the next century and beyond. This will be a truly historic effort in one of Americas most iconic national monuments blending crucial environmental stewardship with public access and visitor experience.
Reporting to the Director of Philanthropy and Capital Campaigns the Campaign Manager is responsible for the day-to-day planning coordination and management of the Muir Woods capital campaign. This position helps set strategy and execute all aspects of a multifaceted multi-year multi-phase campaign. The Campaign Manager is both strategic and tactical incorporating all components of a capital campaign from the leadership gift phase through the launch and implementation of the public phase. Responsibilities include but are not limited to shaping donor stewardship deepening perspective on the donor pipeline managing volunteers and maintaining accurate up-to-date information on campaign goals donors and prospects. The role involves regular collaboration with Parks Conservancy staff and extensive interactions with volunteers across various committees.
This position is based at the Parks Conservancys headquarters at Fort Mason in San -person work three days per week is expected with additional offsite meetings as needed.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Campaign Planning & Management
  • Manage the overall campaign plan timeline and benchmarks across all phases of the campaign (planning quiet phase leadership gifts and public phase).
  • Track progress toward campaign goals and milestones; prepare regular reports and dashboards for leadership and campaign committees.
  • Identify risks gaps or delays and recommend adjustments to strategy or tactics to keep the campaign on track.
  • Coordinate campaign-related activities across development communications and executive leadership to ensure alignment and clarity.
  • In coordination with the Director of Philanthropy and Capital Campaigns organize the pipeline of individual campaign prospects in tandem with a comprehensive campaign timetable.
Donor Strategy & Moves Management
  • Support the development and execution of cultivation solicitation and stewardship strategies for campaign prospects and donors.
  • With support from the Donor Research Manager establishes solicitation priorities manages prospect lists and research.
  • Maintain an organized pipeline of campaign prospects in collaboration with development operations and frontline fundraisers.
  • Develops and executes targeted cultivation plans and solicitation strategies for a range of prospects in coordination with internal and external leadership.
  • In coordination with the Director of Philanthropy and Capital Campaigns and Donor Research Manager prepare donor briefings solicitation materials and campaign-specific proposals and reports.
  • Prepare and calendar internal preparation meetings briefings and post-meeting follow-ups for timely tracking of action items and next steps.
  • Prepare and calendar external meetings with campaign leadership prospects and other non-Parks Conservancy staff engaged in the capital campaign including preparation of necessary materials and post-meeting follow-ups.
  • Ensure accurate and timely tracking of donor interactions proposals and commitments in the organizations CRM.
Volunteer & Committee Support
  • In coordination with the Director of Philanthropy and Capital Campaigns provides oversight guidance and management of campaign committees as appropriate based on phase of the campaign:
    • Assist in campaign volunteer recruitment
    • Help set strategy prepare materials run and conduct follow-up for group meetings
    • Train volunteers for solicitations
    • Prepare volunteers with prospect strategies to ensure they feel confident going into every meeting and that they have the tools necessary for success
  • Coordinate meetings agendas materials and follow-up for campaign-related committees.
  • Support and resource volunteer solicitors with briefings tools and guidance to ensure effective engagement with prospects.
  • Provide necessary campaign updates reports and numerical analysis to senior staff and volunteers
  • Support volunteer committees as appropriate and necessary
Campaign Communications & Materials
  • Support the refinement and use of the campaign case for support across audiences and platforms.
  • Collaborate with communications staff on campaign messaging materials and donor-facing communications.
  • Ensure consistency of campaign narrative and updates across internal and external communications.
  • Develop appropriate donor acknowledgment recognition and stewardship platforms and ensure proper execution
  • Oversees campaign communications by managing the writing and development of campaign print and electronic collateral materials and coordinates their design and production
Administration & Reporting
  • Build develop and maintain campaign reports forecasts and tracking tools both for regular reporting and ad hoc as needed.
  • Ensure campaign documentation gift records and acknowledgments are accurate and up to date.
  • Support campaign budgeting and expense tracking as needed.
Miscellaneous
  • In coordination with the Special Events Team advises on cultivation and recognition events.
    • Building an annual calendar of campaign events including private hosting Muir Woods walking tours and other third-party events.
  • Represent the Parks Conservancy at external functions and events
  • Other duties as assigned
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
  • Bachelors degree
  • 3 years professional experience in fundraising with a proven record of success in meeting fundraising goals
  • Specific experience in capital campaigns individual giving and/or major gifts and organizing campaign data to measure progress toward benchmarks preferred
  • Experience in managing capital campaign budgets preferred
  • Experience in producing campaign materials preferred
  • Capable of working effectively with senior staff board of directors key volunteers donors prospective supporters and consultants
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills and a proven record of creating and fostering excellent relationships between donors and an institution
  • Ability to set a course for action prioritize work solve complex and delicate problems and organize information in a concise and effective manner
  • Ability to organize and complete multiple tasks simultaneously with close attention to detail and prioritization to meet deadlines
  • Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully in person on the phone and via email/text with donors board members volunteers and colleagues
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment meet concurrent deadlines organize time and priorities and do so in collaboration with diverse vested leaders
  • Comfort with office technology and donor information systems (Raisers Edge preferred)
  • Passion for the mission of the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy with a strong commitment to its core values
  • Understanding of environmental cultural and community issues relevant to Bay Area parks and programming preferred
  • Understanding of the philanthropic landscape and donor communities in the Bay Area preferred
  • Collaborative approach with the ability to contribute to a positive team-oriented environment

Salary/Benefits:
The annual salary is $75000 (Grade 18). As part of our equitable pay practices we will not be able to offer a starting salary beyond this amount.
