Location: San Ramon CA (Onsite 5 days/week)
Duration: 6 Months (Possible Extension / Contract-to-Hire)

Rate: $65-70/hr on W2

Position Overview

We are looking for a highly experienced Tech Lead / Staff Engineer to drive backend architecture and engineering excellence for a global e-commerce platform. This role is central to building scalable systems that power personalization checkout and customer experience.

You will play a key role in evolving the platform from a traditional browse and buy model to a highly personalized user-centric commerce experience enabling customer-level insights and intelligent shopping journeys across global markets.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead backend architecture across e-commerce and personalization platforms
• Design build and scale high-performance backend services and APIs
• Drive architectural decisions with a focus on scalability reliability and performance
• Stay hands-on with coding contributing to production-level development
• Establish and enforce engineering best practices and code quality standards
• Conduct and guide code reviews across the engineering team
• Collaborate with Product Frontend and Business teams to translate requirements into scalable solutions
• Mentor engineers through technical leadership and design guidance
• Lead initiatives around system performance reliability and scalability
• Participate in deployments monitoring and incident resolution
• Provide clarity and direction in ambiguous fast-paced environments

Required Qualifications (Must Have)

• Strong expertise in Python backend development
• Proven experience designing and owning large-scale distributed systems
• Deep knowledge of:
  • System Design & Architecture
  • Design Patterns
  • Scalability & Performance Optimization
  • Reliability Engineering
• Hands-on experience building high-traffic revenue-impacting platforms
• Strong problem-solving and technical decision-making skills

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills

• Experience with Amazon DynamoDB
• Strong e-commerce domain experience especially:
  • Cart
  • Checkout
  • Payments
• Experience integrating payment providers such as:
  • Stripe
  • PayPal
  • Apple Pay
  • Google Pay
  • Amazon Pay
• Understanding of PCI compliance security and payment processing standards
• Experience with global/multi-region commerce platforms

Technology Environment
