In this role you will perform project related work such as building load and water use calculations equipment selection concept sketches and CFD modelling. You will answer construction Requests for Information (RFI) develop mechanical Scopes of Work (SOW) produce construction documents for bidding and assist senior engineers with detailed project work. As the CFD subject matter expert you will provide detailed report documents and assist in the design specifications as a part of a team which operates within multiple geographic regions and be an integral part of our work to change the world through technology.

The Data Center Global Services Team: is a global team responsible for the design and operation of industry-leading large-scale business critical facilities. Each team member is a highly motivated individual with demonstrated design and analytical expertise in the efficient function of mission-critical facilities. Our Data Center Mechanical Engineers: understands key problems proposes and analyzes multiple solutions to produce the most energy efficient cost effective and rapidly scalable mechanical designs achievable. They also provide the vision and rationale for Amazons data center mechanical designs to leadership while ensuring current systems meet performance and operational standards.



Key job responsibilities
Your tasks in this role include:
Developing mechanical documentation including but not limited to narratives drawings specifications etc.
Driving process improvements across the organization.
Performing building energy use calculations for determining capacity and type of cooling system required
Performing CFD models on innovative designs
Providing reports to senior leadership on the results of those models
Performing water efficiency use calculations to determine quantity of water needed on site
Coordinating with construction and commissioning teams to answer requests for information
Working with global ME teams to achieve alignment of design and CFD modeling standards
Developing special projects and assist senior engineers with detailed calculations for special projects
This position will involve routine travel typically every other month domestically plus an annual trip to a global location.
Understands the key aspects of status quo data center mechanical systems to the extent that key sources of: high capital/operational costs reduced efficiencies high-levels of maintenance security issues and safety risks can be identified as improvement areas in next-generation data center designs.
Actively define scope and participate in project & product teams focused on delivering innovations in next-generation data centers
Provide direct influence over the mechanical design and construction of new data centers and general capital endeavors
A strong understanding of business analysis and practices including Total Cost of Ownership and Return on Investment models
Create product & project specifications requests for proposals and capital requests
Work closely with hardware designers to optimize the interfaces between the IT equipment and the facility as well as understand the future trends and initiatives in IT equipment technology
Provide total project management and oversight of construction including ownership of the project scope timeline and budget
Record and report key metrics to team members and management
For issues that arise in data centers drive teams to supply: root-cause analysis quantify customer exposure provide remediation long-term corrective measures as well as ensuring these efforts are documented such that the issue doesnt reoccur

- 4 years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers power generation or oil and gas facilities experience
- Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent

- Professional Engineer License
- Experience carrying design concepts through exploration development and into deployment or mass production
- Understanding of building plans project specifications and building controls documentation
- Intermediate experience with MS Excel and MS Word
- Prior project management experience would be beneficial but is not required
- Fundamental understanding of International Code Council codes
- Experience with building load calculation software

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience qualifications and location.
