Job Summary

Title: Campus Victim Advocate

Status: Non-Exempt 4-day workweek 32-hours per week with an on-call rotating schedule including nights weekends and holidays

Salary:$25.93 per hour

Supervisor:Coordinator of Advocacy

Function:

The Campus Victim Advocate is a first responder to a victim in need and prevention educator. The Campus Victim Advocates focus will be providing quality long term victim centered and trauma informed services to college student survivors of crime. This requires the ability to work quickly and concisely under extreme pressure to provide services and safety to college student survivors of crime.


Job Requirements:

  • Must have a BA/BS in the human services field from an accredited university/college.
  • Advanced course work and/or 2-3 years of relevant experience working in human services/victim services a plus.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide services to clients including but not limited to crisis counseling safety planning advocacy information and referrals and claims filing.
  • Meet with victims in person and over the phone.
  • Accompany victims of crime as needed while providing crisis counseling information and referrals assistance with crime victims compensation claims criminal justice advocacy and personal advocacy. Establish and maintain liaisons within the District Attorneys Office Law Enforcement hospitals attorneys social services etc.
  • Accompany the client to hospitals police departments Title IX hearings and court during regular and irregular hours which may be on short notice.
  • Collaborate with the Sexual Assault Response Team Campus Subcommittee.
  • Review all assigned claims regularly and ensure claims are effectively managed.
  • Provide information and referrals to all clients in need by following the agencys protocol.
  • Evaluate and dispense emergency financial assistance to victims as needed.
  • Cover incoming calls on the 24-hour Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis/Crime Victims hotlines for a designated period during business hours and after hours through the on-call rotation.
  • Provide community outreach through presentations and tabling events.
  • Assist with fundraisers and special events (some of these may be outside agency hours of operation).
  • Complete all administrative tasks as assigned on a timely basis including but not limited to documenting all activities preparing weekly and monthly activity reports maintaining up-to-date case records and in putting into the client database.
  • Maintain statistics update client records and prepare reports as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned to support client and program coverage needs based upon need of program.

Competencies:

  • Clear and effective communication both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work effectively when under extreme pressure.
  • Ability to work independently but relate issues to manager as appropriate.
  • Possess out of the box thinking resourcefulness and strong case management/advocacy skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain working relationships within respective law enforcement agencies other community agencies and stakeholders.
  • Ability to remain organized and complete administrative tasks such as documenting activities and maintaining up-to-date records in a timely manner.

Other Requirements:

  • Complete and maintain training certification as NYS DOH Rape Crisis Counselor.
  • Complete mandated reporter training; Report any behavior or implication of behavior of child abuse to the appropriate authorities.
  • Must be able to get to and from various work locations throughout work shift and outside of office hours for on-call purposes. This includes Family Services local courts hospitals police departments social services and correctional facilities.
  • Strong computer skills including a working knowledge of an e-mail package and MS software programs: Word and Excel.
  • Established cell phone willing to use for work (will be reimbursed) with effective coverage for the Dutchess County area.

Work Environment Family Services Inc. Center for Victim Safety and Support is a 24-hour crisis center. The Campus Victim Advocate will split their time between multiple colleges in Dutchess County advocating/interacting with community agencies and systems meeting with individuals and working on a team at the Center for Victim Safety and Support completing documentation and administrative responsibilities and participating in meetings at Family Services.
