JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for the administration of a University Club Sports program including the recruitment of student athletes teaching & instruction student mentoring team scheduling and programming public relations academic support and the retention of student club sport athletes. Supervises assistant and student coaches.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB (provide list of items which are essential to effective outcomes in this role):

  • Primary duty/responsibility is teaching mentoring instructing and imparting knowledge to student athletes as a part of an athletic team and program.
  • Lead the recruiting process of prospective student club sport athletes for a specific team. Assist them with required information for admission to the school. Provide continuing conversations and contacts to prospective student/athletes. Guide them through the enrollment process. Recruit student athletes that are a good fit with the University as well as to the athletic team. Meet enrollment targets including the retention of students.
  • Provides ongoing support and conversation to student athletes to assure a strong relationship and support with the athlete and family guide student athletes in all aspects of program participation.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the club sport team as well as to the individual needs of the team members. Work toward team unity as well as the general unity of the Campus. Initiate and follow a team program and schedule that is consistent reasonable and effective for the student athlete and the team. Provide regular support and direction to student athletes. Make retention of student athletes a goal and priority.
  • Collaborate with and support other club sport coaches and personnel. Provide consistent programs and goals across all OUAZ.
  • Develop the specific club sport team budget and manage expenses during the year to assure that they remain within approved funding levels.
  • Provides a strong academic emphasis and support of academics through your leadership and activities of the club sport program. Be mindful of the contribution the student-athletes make to the Surprise community including academic performance and participation in and contribution to non-athletic activities.

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION: (education based on essential job duties and requirements consistent with business necessity): Bachelors degree required; Masters degree preferred.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: (experience based on requirements in role and are consistent with business necessity) Significant and successful coaching experience preferably at the collegiate level with head coaching experience.

  • Knowledge of tumbling and spotting techniques
