Job Summary
Springfield Public Schools seeks outstanding candidates for the position of Utility Transportation Worker. This position provides cleaning (washing interior and exterior of bus and/or vehicle) and fueling support for District Vehicles and facilities. Duties include fueling inspecting and washing the interior and exterior of School Buses and District Vehicles and provides back up support as a School Bus Driver and to the Bus Service Worker. This is an 8 hour per day 261 days per year position. Itis a Swing Shift position and works from 2:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. Monday - Thursday and 12:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. on Fridays.
Essential Functions
- Fuels cleans and washes the exteriors of school buses and district vehicles;
- Clean and sanitize the interiors of school buses and vehicles including windows floors seats hand railings steps drivers compartments etc.;
- Provides assistance in the moving of large or heavy objects;
- Inspects empties trash fuels sanitizes and cleans interiors and exteriors of School Activity Vehicles;
- Empties Trash around the Transportation Facility;
- Provides light maintenance support to the Bus and Fleet Repair Shop;
- Provides backup support to School Bus Driving;
- Perform other cleaning and light mechanical related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of effective vehicle cleaning practices procedures and equipment.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to follow schedules.
- Ability to work independently for long periods of time.
- Ability to operate vehicle washing equipment.
- Ability to physically perform the assigned duties including but not limited to:
- Lift and move objects up to 75 lbs.
- Stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Climb stairs and ladders.
Minimum Qualifications
Education/Experience
- High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
- Possession of a valid State of Oregon Drivers license.
- Five (5) years of successful driving experience.
Certificates Licenses Registration & Other Requirements
- Ability to obtain and hold a valid First Aid/CPR card and pass SafeSchools training modules as assigned.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an Oregon Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) with proper endorsements and possession of an Oregon Department of Education (ODE) School Bus Drivers Certificate within 90 days of acceptance of employment.
- Ability to successfully complete a physical examination required DMV testing required ODE classes drug screening and physical strength testing.
Desired Qualifications
- Previous school bus or CDL required driving experience.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities (May be acquired through education training and/or experience.)
Knowledge of: Applicable driving (school bus) laws and regulations; student behavioral management techniques; District policies and procedures; safety and first aid practices and procedures; tie down procedures of special equipment such as wheelchairs.
Ability to: possess the physical ability to regularly attend work and fulfill the essential function of the position with or without reasonable accommodation; operate any and all District buses and bus equipment; maintain a safe driving record with District or personal vehicles; drive safely under pressure of time constraints student misbehavior hazardous road conditions and traffic demands remain available for daily driving assignments; understand and apply District and school policies and procedures; maintain appropriate appearance and attire; maintain regular and acceptable attendance and punctuality as set forth in Board policy; greet stakeholders; provide information pertaining to area and/or District/School policies procedures and other pertinent information; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted during the course of work and from diverse backgrounds; interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students staff parents and community members and resolves conflict in a professional manner; maintain records; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; utilize appropriate grammar and spelling when corresponding make mathematical calculations accurately; follow oral and written instructions.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The work is performed primarily in the Transportation area indoors and outdoors. The work involves physical abilities in cleaning. Employees are exposed to cleaning chemicals disinfectants and high pressure devices.
