Embedded within the Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT the Center for the Development of Therapeutics (CDoT) is a highly collaborative organization of professional drug discovery scientists. Our mission is to translate the deep biological insights emerging from the Broad community into new therapeutics. To accomplish this mission we partner with faculty from MIT Harvard and the Harvard teaching hospitals together with industry professionals in pharmaceutical biotechnology and venture capital firms and advance cutting-edge drug discovery projects. We create new technologies and work to apply the unique capabilities of the Broad Institute to enable new therapeutic approaches that will broadly benefit the scientific community. We are seeking a highly motivated and capable Research Scientist I to join the Biochemistry & Biophysics group. As a lab-based position the candidate will be responsible for the development implementation and execution of biochemical and biophysical assays utilizing state-of-the-art capabilities to advance drug discovery projects and experience in this area is required.
Responsibilities:
Lead the development and execution of biochemical and biophysical assays to support hit identification validation and lead optimization (e.g. SPR BLI FP TR-FRET)
Characterize recombinant proteins and their interactions using biochemical and biophysical assays (e.g. DSF ITC MST and NMR)
Design and execute research plans to ensure that critical project requirements timelines and deliverables are met
Investigate and implement new methods for emerging group technologies
Serve as a member of cross-functional project teams interpreting and communicating results in a clear and concise manner to academic and industry partners
Troubleshoot and solve scientific problems independently
Operate and maintain lab equipment independently
Maintain detailed records of lab experiments using a digital notebook (ELN)
Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Biochemistry Biophysics Structural biology or related life science field with 0-2 years of relevant lab experience or a Masters education in Biochemistry Biophysics Structural biology with 7 years of relevant experience
Biochemical and biophysical assay development experience with an advanced understanding of protein biochemistry and biophysics
Significant experience with bioanalytical instrumentation and techniques including SPR BLI ITC MST and/or NMR
Experience in biophysical characterization of biologics (e.g. antibodies nanobodies bispecifics) is beneficial but not required.
The successful candidate will be a results-focused team-oriented creative bench scientist. He or she must be self-motivated and detail-oriented exhibiting strong problem-solving skills and the ability to excel in a fast-track addition the successful candidate should be a clear and effective communicator demonstrating strong interpersonal skills to enable collaboration with cross-functional project teams in identifying and achieving research goals.
