Job Summary
Senior Electrical & Instrumentation (E/I) Designer - Refinery
Location: Onsite
Schedule: Full-Time (40 hrs/week; OT as required)
Duration: Contract (potential for extension or conversion)
Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Electrical & Instrumentation (E/I) Designer to support refinery projects ranging from small capital improvements to large-scale upgrades and turnarounds. This role requires a highly experienced designer who can work independently produce high-quality deliverables and support fast-paced project execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and modify detailed electrical and instrumentation design packages for refinery projects
- Create and update P&IDs one-line diagrams loop diagrams wiring diagrams and installation details
- Perform field walk-downs to verify existing conditions and ensure design accuracy
- Design and route conduit cable tray and wiring systems in accordance with project requirements
- Generate and maintain instrument indexes I/O lists and cable schedules
- Support equipment layout and panel design including junction boxes and marshalling cabinets
- Collaborate with engineers project managers and other disciplines to ensure alignment on scope and deliverables
- Review and revise drawings to reflect as-built conditions
- Ensure all designs comply with industry standards NEC and refinery specifications
Required Qualifications
- 8 years of E/I design experience in refinery petrochemical or heavy industrial environments
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD (recent hands-on experience required)
- Extensive experience with:
- P&IDs and electrical/instrumentation drawings
- Cable and conduit design
- Loop diagrams and wiring details
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment
- Strong understanding of NEC codes and industry standards
- Experience supporting turnarounds shutdowns and capital projects
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AutoCAD Electrical CADWorx or SmartPlant (SPI/Intools)
- Familiarity with PLC/DCS systems (Allen-Bradley Honeywell DeltaV etc.)
- Previous onsite refinery experience with brownfield projects
- TWIC card (or ability to obtain)
