ReNuke Services is seeking a Nuclear Civil Design Engineer SME (Subject Matter Expert) for our clients site in Seneca SC!
This position serves as the Civil/Structural Engineering Subject Matter Expert (SME) for a nuclear generating station providing authoritative technical leadership in the design analysis evaluation and long-term integrity of plant structures and civil systems. This role is responsible for resolving the most complex and high-risk engineering challenges ensuring compliance with nuclear regulatory requirements and maintaining the structural design basis of safety-related and non-safety-related systems. The SME operates with a high degree of autonomy and is recognized as a technical authority across the organization influencing engineering standards design practices and strategic decisions that impact plant safety reliability and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities: *Serve as the technical authority for civil/structural engineering matters providing expert guidance on complex design analysis and field issues *Lead the evaluation and resolution of significant structural concerns including degraded non-conforming or safety-related conditions *Oversee and approve complex engineering analyses calculations and design change packages affecting critical plant structures *Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (e.g. ACI AISC ASCE) and nuclear regulatory requirements including NRC regulations and guidance *Maintain ownership of civil/structural design basis including validation updates and configuration control of critical documentation *Provide technical leadership in seismic qualification structural integrity evaluations and risk-informed engineering decisions *Support and lead engineering efforts during refueling outages including emergent issue resolution and field engineering support *Drive long-term asset management strategies including aging management life extension and structural health monitoring programs *Lead or support root cause analyses and corrective action development for significant events or conditions adverse to quality *Review and approve vendor and contractor deliverables ensuring technical accuracy and compliance with plant requirements *Interface with regulatory agencies during audits inspections and technical reviews serving as the civil/structural engineering representative *Mentor and develop engineering staff providing guidance on technical standards best practices and professional development *Influence engineering processes standards and continuous improvement initiatives across the organization *Support capital projects system upgrades and major modifications as the lead civil/structural technical authority

Basic Qualifications: *Bachelors degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program *Minimum of 15 years of progressive civil/structural engineering experience with significant experience in nuclear power or similarly regulated industries *Demonstrated expertise in structural analysis design and evaluation of complex systems and safety-related structures *Proven ability to lead resolution of high-impact technical issues and provide expert-level decision-making *Extensive experience with engineering design control processes calculations and technical documentation
Preferred Qualifications: *Professional Engineer (PE) license (strongly preferred) *Extensive experience in nuclear plant civil/structural engineering including familiarity with NRC regulations and Appendix B quality standards *Advanced knowledge of seismic analysis structural dynamics and qualification of nuclear structures and components *Experience with finite element analysis and advanced structural modeling tools *Prior experience serving as a technical lead SME or reviewer of record on complex engineering projects *Strong background in aging management programs and long-term asset integrity strategies Additional Requirements: *Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access to a nuclear facility *Willingness to support outage schedules including extended hours nights and weekends as needed *Demonstrated commitment to nuclear safety culture procedural compliance and engineering excellence
