We are looking for a BIW Development Officer to design and develop specific zones of the vehicle body structure (Body-in-White). The role involves leading design activities coordinating a team of designers and ensuring that performance targets related to structural strength and dynamic behavior are achieved.
The successful candidate will contribute to the development of body structure components ensuring alignment with project requirements in terms of quality cost delivery and performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop defined zones of the vehicle Body-in-White (BIW)
- Lead and coordinate a team of designers to achieve performance targets
- Ensure compliance with structural and dynamic performance requirements
- Define and manage key technical aspects including:
- Material selection
- Mass optimization
- Functional Performance Requirements (FPR)
- Welding points and joining technologies (e.g. spot welding)
- Develop and validate planning and packaging of BIW components
- Optimize material usage through Coefficient of Material Utilization (CMU)
- Ensure consistency between design manufacturing and assembly constraints
- Utilize PLM systems and CATIA V5 (parametric surface design) for development activities
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (manufacturing materials suppliers etc.)
Requirements
Education & Experience
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering Automotive Engineering or a related field
- Proven experience in Body-in-White (BIW) development or automotive body structure design
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of BIW design including structure materials and joining processes
- Experience with welding technologies and body assembly processes
- Understanding of structural and dynamic performance requirements
- Proficiency in CATIA V5 (parametric surfacing) and PLM systems
- Familiarity with automotive development processes and lifecycle
Soft Skills
- Strong leadership and team coordination skills
- Analytical and problem-solving mindset
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary and international environment
- Good communication and collaboration skills
