Postdoc position in Molecular Quantum Materials DTU Chemistry
Kgs. Lyngby - Denmark
Job Summary
The project aims to develop new chemical strategies for the design of quantum materials by integrating functional molecules with layered two-dimensional materials. Combining concepts from coordination chemistry and solid-state chemistry the research explores how molecules with tailored electronic and magnetic properties can be incorporated into van der Waals crystals to engineer magnetism electronic structure and symmetry at the atomic scale. This chemistry-driven approach opens new opportunities for creating quantum materials with emergent phenomena such as low-dimensional magnetism tunable electronic phases and potentially superconductivity with relevance for spintronics and quantum technologies.
Responsibilities and qualifications
The successful candidate will work on the synthesis and investigation of molecularly engineered quantum materials including the design of molecular intercalants and their incorporation into layered materials. The project combines synthetic coordination and solid-state chemistry with advanced structural characterization and physical property particular the candidate will investigate structureproperty relationships using techniques including three-dimensional electron diffraction transmission electron microscopy and X-ray crystallography complemented by measurements of magnetic and electronic properties.
The research will be carried out in an interdisciplinary environment spanning synthetic chemistry crystallography magnetism and quantum materials science. The group has access to state-of-the-art electron diffraction instrumentation and X-ray crystallography facilities physical property characterization techniques and the use of synchrotron radiation sources is an integral part of the project.
Active dissemination of research results through publications in leading scientific journals and presentations at international conferences is an integral part of the position. The project is carried out in close collaboration with partners at DTU Physics and DTU Nanolab who contribute expertise in electron microscopy heterogeneous catalysis and advanced characterization of functional quantum materials.
As a formal qualification you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent). You may apply prior to obtaining your PhD degree but cannot start before having obtained it.
