Summary:
Westminster City Council is looking for a proactive Trading Standards Officer or Senior Trading Standards Officer to lead the local implementation of the Renters Rights Act 2025. This high-profile role sits at the intersection of Trading Standards and Private Sector Housing focusing on ensuring the council and local businesses are prepared for major legislative the Business Readiness Project Officer you will bridge the gap between policy and practice. Your primary goal is to protect vulnerable residents by ensuring letting agents and property managers comply with new legal standards. You will balance an advisory rolehelping businesses adaptwith a firm enforcement role to address non-compliance.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the subject matter expert on consumer protection housing and rental legislation.
- Lead the Trading Standards contribution to the councils Business Readiness Programme for the Renters Rights Act.
- Conduct inspections of trading premises and investigate complex complaints regarding letting agents and property management.
- Prepare comprehensive legal statements case records and high-quality reports for consultation or prosecution.
Qualifications:
- A recognized Trading Standards qualification (e.g. CTSI Professional Diploma/DCATS) or an equivalent regulatory/legal qualification.
Essentials:
- Strong working knowledge of Consumer Protection Housing Acts and related legislation affecting the private rented sector.
- Proven track record of conducting formal investigations and taking enforcement action within a local authority or regulatory environment.
- Experience managing a complex caseload with minimal supervision while meeting strict deadlines.
