Role Descriptions:
Summary
The L2 Backup Support Engineer is responsible for advanced troubleshooting operational support and optimization of Veritas NetBackup environments. This role involves handling escalations from L1 teams ensuring SLA compliance and implementing best practices for backup and recovery.
Key Responsibilities
Implementation of Flex Appliances 5360 & 5260
Master server & Media server configuration on Flex Appliances
Analyze logs (bptm bpbrm bpdbm) and diagnose root causes for recurring problems.
Configure and optimize backup policies schedules and storage units.
Configure & Manage NetBackup Flex Appliances MSDP pools tape libraries and cloud storage integrations.
Design and implement disaster recovery strategies including replication and vaulting.
Ensure compliance with data protection policies and retention standards.
Develop scripts (PowerShell Python Bash) for automation and reporting.
Implement performance tuning and capacity planning for backup systems.
Act as the focal point for L1 escalations and provide knowledge transfer.
Generate backup success/failure reports and maintain SOPs.
Reporting on OpsCenter Alta View and IT Analytics
Required Skills
Expertise in Veritas NetBackup (v10.x and above) including Appliances and OpsCenter.
Strong understanding of backup/recovery concepts storage management and NDMP.
Proficiency in Python PowerShell or Bash for automation tasks.
Experience with Linux/Unix Windows Server and SQL/Oracle backup integrations.
Familiarity with RTO/RPO objectives and replication strategies.
Excellent problem-solving analytical and communication skills.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Computer Science IT or related field.
5 years in backup Implementation & administration with at least 2 years in L2 support.
