The Team Leader Mechanical Design in the Large Turbine Centre of Excellence (COE) is responsible to leads a team of design engineers to efficiently execute Order-to-Remittance (OTR) projects for hydro Turbine mechanical design. This role also includes component leadership responsibilities focusing on design development standardization and optimization of large hydro Turbine systems. The role requires strong technical expertise leadership skills and a commitment to fostering an inclusive and collaborative work environment. The position reports directly to the Sub-COE Leader of Large Turbines.Job Description
Team Leader role:
Lead and support a diverse team of engineers and designers in hydro Turbine design activities.
Assign tasks set priorities and monitor progress to ensure successful achievement of project milestones.
Focus on team development by building and maintaining competencies and expertise within the COE.
Mentor team members for technical development monitor productivity and assess performance.
Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment to promote creativity and innovation.
Coordinate with Systems Integrators & cross-functional teams such as manufacturing procurement materials advanced manufacturing sourcing quality and site teams to ensure seamless project execution & resolve technical and operational issues.
Manage global project loads by prioritizing tasks and allocating resources effectively.
Ensure timely completion of milestones improve first-pass yield optimize costs and reduce risks to prevent margin slippage. Also ensure adherence to GE Global Engineering technical standards including technology quality and reliability requirements.
Component Leadership role:
Drive simplification and standardization in engineering execution processes. Lead component design efforts to ensure global standardization simplification and optimization of hydro Turbine systems.
Work on initiatives such as cost-out ideas new product introduction (NPI) and design practice management.
Collaborate with Principal and Consulting Engineers to develop design practices update technical guidelines and maintain robust documentation.
Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies transferring knowledge to the COE team.
Support troubleshooting and problem-solving during development and testing phases.
Implement lessons learned from fleet and supplier quality issues into new designs to enhance robustness and reliability.
Promote a culture of continuous improvement innovation and adaptability.
Qualifications
Bachelors or advanced degree in engineering with a minimum of 10 years of experience in hydro-related fields.
Strong expertise in hydro products components and systems with hands-on experience in hydro Turbine design and engineering execution.
Open-minded and multicultural capable of working efficiently with cross-regional COE teams.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Knowledge of additional languages is preferred but not mandatory.
