We sit at the forefront of global compliance shaping how Amazon navigates complex regulatory landscapes across international markets. Our global first line of defense (1LoD) risk program protects our customers interests while balancing risk management with exceptional customer experience.
We are seeking an experienced Monitoring Risk Manager to join our Global 1LoD risk program with a primary focus on 3P VAT programs. The role involves supporting the implementation of the VAT Monitoring program across EU and other regions ensuring that Amazon controls are adequate operating efficiently and meeting requirements. This role sits at the intersection of tax compliance risk detection and product innovation with direct visibility to senior leadership as we build more proactive intelligence-driven compliance capabilities

Key job responsibilities
Lead a VAT Monitoring program that performs continuous assessments of controls across Amazon ensuring they are adequate and operating efficiently
Conduct reviews of Amazon 3P VAT policies and requirements to identify gaps that require the implementation of new controls
Review 1LoD VAT processes to identify additional controls to be added to our continuous monitoring program
Work with Program Tech and BI teams to support the launch of monitoring mechanisms for existing VAT controls
Deep dive into defects identified on VAT controls and support root cause analysis risk assessment and identification of remediation plans
Own and maintain a program-level issue register to track control defects root causes remediation plans and workstream progress through to resolution
Ensure remediation and treatment plans are kept current and aligned with the issue register coordinating with control owners to drive closure
Identify and document SOP alignment gaps surfaced through monitoring activity working with relevant teams to resolve them
Prepare and present detailed reports with findings from monitoring activity providing updates to senior leadership at varying cadences (weekly monthly quarterly)
Expand the Monitoring program into new areas or products or where VAT requirements are being introduced
Establish feedback loops with cross-functional teams to ensure monitoring insights translate into concrete improvements to controls and detection logic

A day in the life
You will be part of a team of risk and compliance professionals working to ensure Amazons VAT controls are robust well-monitored and continuously improving. On any given day you might be reviewing control defects to identify root causes coordinating with Tech and BI teams on new monitoring mechanisms or preparing a report for senior leadership on the health of the VAT compliance program. Youll work across organizational boundariesconnecting with Tax Product and Operations teamsto make sure monitoring findings drive real change.

- Bachelors degree or equivalent
- 4 years of compliance program management legal governance audit risk/loss prevention or equivalent experience
- Experience handling confidential information
- Experience as a strong leader who can prioritize well communicate clearly and effectively influence across cross-functional teams
- Experience prioritizing and handling multiple assignments at any given time while maintaining commitment to deadlines
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify patterns in data and translate findings into actionable recommendations
- Clear written and verbal communication skills including experience preparing reports for cross-functional audiences

- 3 years of program requirements definition and data and metrics leveraging to drive improvements experience
- Experience with SQL and Excel
- Experience in 3P VAT programs (e.g. deemed reseller DAC7 VAS)
- Experience leveraging data and technology to drive process improvements
