Job Summary
- 75% -Welcome and orient visitors to the Museum and its various resources during public hours; champion a Visitor Experience strategy that prioritizes an inclusive accessible open environment to foster learning discovery and civic engagement; perform opening and closing procedures for the Visitor Experience Center; participate in visitor studies; maintain the Welcome Desk and associated materials; maintain cleanliness and organization in the lobby flex space Little Free Museum and other public spaces; and work collaboratively with other staff and Visitor Experience volunteers.
- 20% -Program and event-related responsibilities may include contributing to program ideation and development; setting up and striking equipment; greeting/directing attendees; monitoring event activities and visitor needs; tracking attendance and other statistics.
- 5% -Conduct retail financial transactions for on-site sales of Museum Shop merchandise.

Position Overview

The Visitor Experience Student Assistant supports visitor experience strategies that advance University and Museum goals connect visitors with Museum resources deepen relationships with current audiences and cultivate new audiences. The Visitor Experience Student Assistant also implements protocols to ensure a safe environment and seamless visitor experience attends staff meetings and trainings and assists with Museum events programs and interpretive activities as needed. This position is shared by three to four student staff members who are cross-trained in all areas but may specialize in certain duties.
This position also requires:
One or two weekday morning or afternoon shifts with the possible exception of staff meetings and trainings all hours are onsite working with the public at the Spencer Museum of Art. The ideal candidate must also be available to attend occasional staff meetings and training and must have the ability to lift 20 lbs.

Position Requirements
During the semester term of the appointment the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
Employment Conditions
(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
