Job Summary
The Department of Sociology/Anthropology atOhio Wesleyan University invites applications for a visiting assistant professorship in Sociology starting in August 2026. We seek an outstanding teacher committed to engaging undergraduates in the classroom and expertise in criminology/criminal justice and social theory.

This position will join a college deeply committed to flexibility interdisciplinarity and inclusivity. Faculty have opportunities for mentoring professional development and collaboration across theOhio Five andGLCA consortia.
Responsibilities:
- Teach six courses annually (3/3).
- In the fall 2026 semester required courses will include two sections of Introduction to Sociology and one section of Social Theory. The spring 2027 semester is flexible and can include courses in criminology/criminal justice other upper-level electives based on candidate expertise and/or Introduction to Sociology.
- Collaborate with colleagues in the Department of Sociology/Anthropology to advance a shared vision for extraordinary student outcomes and an interdisciplinary major in Social Justice.
- Assist in curriculum development revision and evaluation.
- Play a key role in recruiting prospective students and enhancing existing campus programming.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Masters in Sociology or a closely related field and pursuing a Ph.D.
- Potential for teaching excellence
- Ability to create an environment that acknowledges encourages and celebrates difference within the context of varying beliefs behaviors orientations identities and cultural backgrounds
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ph.D. (or near completion) in Sociology
- Experience teaching at the undergraduate level
Successful candidates are expected to pursue excellence in teaching maintain a productive ongoing professional development program and contribute actively to the continued growth of the department and the university.

Include examples of outreach advising or program activities that have supported students whose pathways into the discipline may not follow a traditional trajectory.
