Primary Purpose
Under the directions of the Director of Transportation coordinates assigned functions pertaining to the operation and supervision of the transportation personnel. The prime concern is employee recruitment and retention.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High School Diploma
Clear and valid Texas commercial drivers license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests and annual physical exam
- Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills
- Building relationships and relational capacity of coworkers.
Experience:
Five years experience as a bus driver preferred.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Transportation
- Recruitment of the driver and monitor staff for the transportation department.
- Manage bus drivers assignments to routes and extracurricular trips and ensure substitutes are assigned as needed.
- Honor and support WISD the transportation department and its employees.
- Evaluate drivers and monitors about their performance expectations.
- Operate bus as needed.
Policy Reports and Laws
- Manage and assist in the preparation of reports records of employee performance evaluations.
- Prepare process and maintain all documents required to verify safety certification and alcohol and drug testing of bus drivers.
- Ensure employee time records are accurately maintained and data necessary to process transportation payroll is delivered in a timely manner.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Student Management
- Work with director to implement districts student discipline policies and ensure expectations about appropriate behavior when using district transportation are communicated to students.
- Support drivers with the management student discipline and suspension of riding privileges for any student who violates rules and regulations.
- Schedule training and support sessions for drivers monitors to assist them with student management.
Safety
- Assist with the safety standards ensure that they conform to the state federal and insurance regulations and develop a program of preventive safety.
- Investigate school bus accidents and student safety violations.
- Maintain safety standards in conformance with federal state and insurance regulations.
- Coordinator with director to ensure training programs are in place to promote a safe work environment.
- Monitor transportation equipment and ensure it is in excellent operating condition.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
