Ben Davis High School / Area 31 Career Center is seeking a creative and experienced Television Broadcasting Journalistto join our Career and Technical Education team. This full-time position involves teaching high school students the fundamentals and advanced techniques of television production digital media and broadcasting while preparing them for postsecondary education and careers in media and communications.
This is an exciting opportunity for a media professional who is passionate about storytelling production and developing the next generation of broadcast and digital media professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach courses in television broadcasting video production and digital media.
- Provide instruction in areas such as camera operation video editing audio production scriptwriting and studio production.
- Oversee and manage student-led productions including school news broadcasts live events and recorded programming.
- Develop engaging project-based lessons aligned with state standards and industry practices.
- Create a collaborative hands-on learning environment that fosters creativity technical skill development and professionalism.
- Assess student performance and provide meaningful timely feedback.
- Maintain and manage broadcasting equipment studio space and editing software.
- Collaborate with school staff and community partners to expand real-world learning opportunities.
- Support students in building portfolios and preparing for postsecondary education or careers in media.
- Serve as a role model for professionalism and ethical standards in media production.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Masters degree in Television Broadcasting Communications Media Production or a related discipline
OR - Masters degree in a different discipline with at least 18 graduate credit hours in Television Broadcasting Communications or a closely related field
OR - Bachelors degree in Television Broadcasting Communications Media Production or a related field plus industry experience equivalent to:
- Five years of full-time experience
- Seven years of part-time experience or
- A combination of full-time and part-time experience in the broadcasting or media production field
- Willingness and eligibility to obtain appropriate Indiana educator licensure (Workplace Specialist or equivalent) within the first year of employment (support provided).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional experience in television broadcasting video production digital media or a related field.
- Experience with industry-standard tools (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite Final Cut Pro broadcast equipment and live production systems).
- Prior teaching training or mentoring experience with students or staff.
- Strong organizational communication and collaboration skills.
- Experience producing live broadcasts or managing student media productions.
- A passion for career and technical education and student success.
