Overview: | The primary functions of the Elementary Enrichment/ STEM Teacher will be to coordinate and implement a STEM curriculum in collaboration with classroom teachers with the goal of enriching the learning experience of K-5 students while improving achievement and understanding in the areas of Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics. |
Education Required: | The person will hold a Bachelors degree (Masters preferred) and will hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license. (A Virginia Department Of Education endorsement in Elementary Education PreK-6 is preferred.) |
Qualifications: | Candidate must possess the leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with pupils other teachers and parents. Candidate should be skilled in the teaching of Science Technology and Mathematics education and have significant experience with STEM related curricula. Candidate should have demonstrated knowledge and application of effective elementary education principles practices and trends. Candidate must possess good moral character. Candidate must have a minimum of five years of successful teaching experience preferably in elementary math science or technology education. |
Essential Duties: | - Researches best practices for STEM education in order to develop and implement integrated STEM lessons for students across the curriculum to include appropriate STEM pedagogy that is aligned with the Standards of Learning.
- Works directly with students to enrich and extend student learning beyond what is typically taught in the general education classroom.
- Evaluates student work both formative and summative assessments benchmarks and other assessments to guide instructional planning and promote student achievement and understanding.
- Utilizes best instructional practices methods materials and technology that have proved to increase student achievement in STEM with emphasis on Science inquiry-based methodologies.
- Provides ongoing student instruction and lab experience based on content standards.
- Works collaboratively and communicate effectively with other teachers to strengthen students experience of the STEM curriculum.
- Possesses interpersonal problem solving and organizational skills to effectively facilitate K-5 STEM best practices and planning with K-5 teaching staff.
- Works both independently and collaboratively with K-5 teachers.
- Attends STEM specific professional development activities as determined by the Assistant Superintendent.
- Takes responsibility for professional development by participating in appropriate in-service and workshop programs and attends all required meetings.
- Cultivates and models a respectful safe and rigorous STEM classroom environment.
- Possesses strong class management skill procedures and strategies for working with students.
- Possesses strong oral and written communication skills.
- Upholds and enforces Board policies administrative procedures school rules and federal and state regulations.
- Displays ethical behavior in working with students parents school personnel and outside agencies associated with the school.
- Serves as a role model for students and staff in demonstrating positive attitudes appropriate attire personal grooming and an effective work ethic.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the School Principal
Supervisory Duties: | None | Physical Demands: | Duties performed typically in school settings to include: classrooms gymnasium cafeteria; auditorium; and recreational areas. Frequent walking standing stooping lifting up to approximately 30 pounds and occasional lifting of equipment and/or materials weighing up to approximately 50 pounds may be required. Other limited physical activities may be required. Occasional travel with students on field trips may be necessary. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions noise and hazards. Occasional movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required. Regular instruction to special needs children may be necessary. Daily personal and close contact with children to provide classroom management and learning environment support is required. Regular contact with staff members administration and parents is required. Frequent contact with parents by phone and in person is necessary. Occasional contact with medical professionals may be required. Evidence of fitness to teach from the standpoint of health may be required from a qualified physician. | Job Evaluation: | Performance will be evaluated on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the above responsibilities by the School Principal in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of personnel. |
