POSITION SUMMARY
The Supervisor of Secondary Math History and Advanced Programs serves in a critical leadership role and provides supervision of secondary instruction and DCIRTs in collaboration with the Secondary Director of Instruction. This role provides direct support to building administrators and instructional personnel to support and enhance skill development in 6-12 Math History and Advanced Program content areas. The Supervisor ofSecondary Math History and Advanced Programs ensures the successful implementation of the Virginia Standards of Learning LCS LOGs and division-wide instructional practices and initiatives by monitoring instructional quality coordinating professional learning and supporting division-level staff principals and teachers in achieving growth targets in efforts to close the achievement gap for all students. The Supervisor of Secondary Math History and Advanced Programs provides instructional leadership curriculum guidance coaching and professional development to support high-quality teaching and learning in mathematics history and advanced programs across secondary grade levels.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Ensure alignment with Virginia Mathematics and History/Social Science SOL standards
Coordinate advanced mathematics pathways and acceleration opportunities
Oversee Advanced Placement and honors programming within mathematics and humanities disciplines
Support development of analytical reasoning historical thinking and problem-solving skills
Assist schools with data-driven instructional planning and intervention strategies
Provide direct instructional leadership and support to administrators DCIRTs and all secondary teachers ensuring effective delivery of the districts curriculum and instructional initiatives.
Supervise and guide administrators instructional staff DCIRTs and all secondary teachers in the implementation of high-quality Tier I instruction intervention strategies and evidence-based instructional practices aligned with the Virginia SOLs.
Analyze student performance data to identify instructional strengths gaps and trends; use this analysis to inform curriculum adjustments and targeted supports.
Design and coordinate common formative assessments and performance tasks to monitor progress and inform instruction in math and history.
Collaborate with school administrators to monitor classroom instruction set improvement goals and provide targeted instructional coaching through DCIRTs and administrators.
Directly supervise the divisions secondary DCIRTsensuring their coaching cycles modeling and professional learning activities lead to measurable instructional improvement and outcomes for students.
Develop and manage annual work plans for DCIRTs aligned to division title goals CSIPs and the LCS division Plan.
Create and monitor professional learning opportunities to ensure consistent support for secondary teachers through data-informed collaboration and instructional follow-up.
Supervise advanced programs effectively to support instructional goals equitable access to diverse materials and curriculum alignment.
Lead professional learning for stakeholders focused on supporting skill development research practices and information aligned with state standards in the core content areas.
Supervise the implementation of common assessments Oversee the administration of common assessments for grades 6-12 and ensure data from SOLs Common Assessments IXL and other tools is used effectively to guide instruction and intervention planning.
Serve as the division lead for all 612 mathematics history and advanced program related initiatives projects and partnerships (including GiftedSTEM-Academy Governors School CVCC and specialized programs).
Participate in the reviewadoption and implementation process for instructional materials and digital tools aligned to 612 math and history standards.
Support new teacher induction efforts specific to mathematics instructional practices.
Collaborate with school-based teams to design and implement intervention strategies for students performing below grade level in math.
Collaborate with other content supervisors special education leaders English learner specialists and gifted coordinators to ensure alignment and access for all learners.
Facilitate and support Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) in using data and curriculum resources to improve instructional practices.
Stay current with state and national trends research and legislation impacting mathematics instruction.
Support school leaders in monitoring and strengthening math and history instruction through walkthroughs coaching conversations and collaborative planning.
Lead the design and delivery of professional learning for secondary Administrators teachers and DCIRTs.
Coordinate division-wide PL days grade-band PLCs and ongoing job-embedded coaching to build teacher capacity in high quality instruction scaffolding and academic discourse.
Ensure all required professional learning is completed and that teachers receive targeted support aligned with instructional walkthrough and assessment data.
Coordinate division-wide instructional walkthroughs focused on improving secondary instruction and practices across content areas.
Supervise DCIRTs and teachers by providing timely feedback and follow-up support to teachers based on walkthrough trends.
Collaborate with administrators to develop and monitor school-level improvement plans tied to walkthrough data and assessment outcomes.
Support in the development and implementation of the districts Division Plan and ensure full compliance.
Collaborate on the Teaching and Learning division website with the division-level team to provide teachers and administrators with ongoing access to instructional resources model lessons and assessment tools.
Collaborate with SPED EL and Gifted teams to ensure instructional supports are differentiated and accessible for all students.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Valid Virginia Postgraduate Professional License with endorsements in secondary core content area(s) and/ or Administration & Supervision.
Masters degree or higher in a Core Content Area Curriculum & Instruction and/or Educational Leadership.
Minimum of five years of successful secondary teaching experience with demonstrated success in instructional leadership and teacher supervision.
Expertise in adolescent development instructional planning and professional learning facilitation.
Experience supervising instructional staff instructional coaching and managing cross-department collaboration.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must demonstrate leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively and cooperatively with students teachers administrators division-level staff and parents/guardians in providing the best possible educational environment.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Reliable transportation is necessary
Travel within the City of Lynchburg as needed
Travel for Professional Learning conferences and training as needed.
